We had the good fortune of connecting with Amelia Dortch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amelia, what are you inspired by?
I’ve always been inspired by hard work and creativity. Growing up, my mom worked really hard to make ends meet for our family. Raising four girls as a single mom was far from easy but I saw her use her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to build a good life for us. The example she set has always been an inspiration to me and impacts how I approach my business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I created Hines Dortch Consulting, a boutique consulting agency, to serve as a branding resource for small businesses. I focus on helping these businesses grow their brands my working with them to create impressive designs, memorable content and sound strategy. I pride myself on being a one-stop shop for branding needs. This is what sets me apart as a boutique agency. I’m so excited that I’ve decided to share my skills and services with a broader audience. Before last fall, I only worked with brands through word of mouth/friends of friends. Now, I’m actively marketing my services to anyone who needs my help. I’ve always been a constant learner and offering to do projects pro bono and as a volunteer for non-profits have helped me get to where I am. It was the best decision I made in the early days and that has allowed me to hone my skills in an undeniably beneficial way. I’m so thankful that my earliest clients trusted my abilities that long ago. Was it easy? Not always. Clients don’t always like your style. Some ghost you. Some back out after you’ve done work. But, it all makes you smarter and more savvy. At the end of the day, I want people to know that Amelia Dortch and HD Consulting is small but mighty. This boutique agency works hard to help other small businesses bring their ideas to life and let the world know that they are here and have so much to offer to others, too.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Monday: Bar Taco in Buckhead

Tuesday: West Midtown for a little Top Golf

Wednesday: Botanical Gardens and Piedmont Park

Thursday: Hotel Clermont for happy hour

Friday: Shops of Buckhead and dinner at Gypsy Kitchen or Le Colonial

Saturday: Beltline crawl…I know that’s probably a popular go-to but there’s a reason for that. Start around lunch and you can hit some awesome spots: Krog Street, Ladybird, Bazati, New Realm, etc.

Sunday: Quick brunch at Murphy’s in Virginia Highlands before they leave 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my mom. She’s the reason I’ve been able to tap in to this side of myself; a version of myself that I didn’t fully celebrate or promote until recently. Thank you mom for being a great example of an inspiring female entrepreneur!
