Meet Amanda Lesperence | Makeup artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Lesperence and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most decision that contributed to my success is moving to a different state. Moving has really limited my distractions and created an environment where I can stay disciplined, focused and consistent with my craft.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been doing makeup for almost four years now. However, I started doing creative makeup about a year and a half ago. I was watching one of my favorite makeup artists @beatsbydeb do a creative Christmas look and I told myself “ I have to recreate this.” I thought it would be very challenging and was hesitant to go through with it at first because I wasn’t an “artist” but the outcome was amazing for my first time. Everyone loved it including her! And that was all the motivation I needed to continue doing creative series. The journey to where I am today was not an easy one! I struggled with time management. I had to balance out school, work, and content creating and it felt nearly impossible at the time. I faced a lot of creators block, lack of motivation, failed attempts which all gets very discouraging. Honestly my friends and supporters played a major part in helping me overcome my obstacles. Times where I’d stop posting Id receive such sweet messages motivating me to not give up and that really kept me going. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is to stop comparing yourself. There were so many times where I felt like my work wasn’t good enough because I was comparing it to another amazing artists’ work. But I realized that someone else’s talent and creativity doesn’t take away from my personal talent and creativity. I’ve also learned that you have to work at your own pace. Don’t rush your process. Don’t worry about another persons success because everyone’s journey is different. There were times where I wasn’t in the right mental headspace to create content but I’d force myself to record because I’d see other people succeeding and being consistent… but all that did was make me produce mediocre work. This taught me to take as much time as you need to revamp and rebrand yourself. Everyone’s journey is different so don’t rush yours. I’m really proud of the progress that I’ve made within the time span of a year. Of course there’s always room for improvement and I’m always learning new things everyday but I’m proud of the consistency I’ve been able to maintain.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First I would take them to the Trap music museum. My best friend and I have been planning to go there forever! Then I’d take them to the Georgia aquarium and then after the aquarium we would probably go to the coca coala museum. Id also take them to the Martin Luther king national historic park and then the zoo! You can never go wrong with the zoo. I’d also try and take them to chase a waterfall! They’re absolutely beautiful. Honestly I’m new to Georgia so everything would be my first time too. I’m not familiar with 98% of the restaurants here. But that’s not stopping me from trying amazing food! I’d want us to try a bit of everything! Jamaican food on Monday. Tacos on Tuesday! Haitian food on Wednesday ! Thai food on Thursday ! Maybe a seafood boil on Saturday. I love a good seafood boil! On Sunday’s we brunch! Sundays are more relaxed days so we’d probably have a pool day as well and watch a movie and order some pizza with wine ! Some of the most interesting places to check out to me is anything with nice scenery. I love sight seeing and taking pictures! I’m pretty spontaneous so one day I might want to go somewhere as calm as ice skating or an arcade and the next I’d want to go skydiving or axe throwing!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shout-out to all my friends. They have supported me throughout this entire journey and continued to have faith in me even when I lacked faith in myself. They’ve motivated me and served as a constant reminder that I can do anything I put my mind to. They were a huge contribution to my overall journey so THANK YOU!! I’d also like to thank my supporters! You have no idea how motivating and comforting it is to receive compliments on my work. Times where I am feeling defeated or like I should give up, I read through the comments and see how many people have faith in me and want me to keep going and that really pushes me to not give up on my dreams.
