We had the good fortune of connecting with Aliyah Glo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aliyah, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The main habits that have led to my success are trusting my gut and trying EVERYTHING. I’ve done so many things from directing to modeling, from going to college for marketing to going to esthetics school, and eventually getting paid to do major boat repairs while scriptwriting for music videos. Regardless of how random these things may be, they all have been a major factor in my success. Through dedication to my crafts, networking, and doing things I truly wanted to do, I created a life for myself where I get to do things that make me happy everyday and inspire others while doing it. I never let outside factors like opinions of people around me, social media, or the limited access I had to the life I wanted pressure me into a life I didn’t truly want. If you follow your intuition and just do things that fulfill you (in healthy ways of course), success is bound to happen. That’s just how the universe works.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a person who grew up taking an interest in almost everything, my well-rounded background quickly became a factor in why my creations stand out. I always found myself devoting a lot of time to the things I took an interest in during different periods of my life and I’ve never been afraid to switch courses either. One of my proudest and most life-changing moments had to be when I took my first chance at modeling and applied to walk during New York Fashion Week. I couldn’t believe I got accepted! Starting my modeling career opened a whole new door for me and the possibilities that I could create for myself. I had to learn to be open and make meaningful connections, but most importantly, I learned the importance of following the things that truly made me happy in life. In reality, I just do what I love to do! I can go from walking in a fashion show to directing a music video to helping my clients clear up their acne all it’s because I choose to do the things that make me happy every day. I love waking up and working on a new project that I’m actually passionate about.
It wasn’t easy getting to this point though. It can take a lot of energy trying to build up so many things, but as long as you keep your faith and what you do and stay focused on the life that you want for yourself, you’re going to get where you want to be. I want people in the world to be inspired when they see me in the things I do. I want them to be inspired to create art, opportunities, memories, revenue, but most importantly I want them to be inspired to create the reality that they want for themselves no matter how far out of reach it may seem.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting for the week, the first thing we’re doing is definitely hitting a restaurant. One of my favorite brunch places in the city is Somo, so I would probably take them there or Rayaki for ramen. At some point, we could visit Sushi Kingdom too. It’s not in Philadelphia, but the drive isn’t too far and the food is more than worth it! For fun, I would show them some of my favorite hiking spots in the city and we could go to a music festival, rave, or Concourse during the evening. Most of my friends are also creative people, so they would probably want to do a shoot at the art museum or somewhere near Center City. To end everything off we would have a spa day and enjoy the view of the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Nikki G (Nicole Germosen). She’s a model I met through an agency in Allentown who has been on fire since she’s stepped on the runway!
