We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisha Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alisha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My initial thoughts of starting my own business were to simply serve and help people obtain successful careers in the federal government. I was nervous, yes, but I knew there was a need for my knowledge – especially within the military veteran community – so I set out to educate and train others to identify their accomplishments in writing while communicating their worth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Alisha D Brown Career Consulting LLC is different from other career consulting businesses because it was created with those in mind who are similar to me – transitioning military and veterans seeking employment in the federal government. What sets my agency apart from others is the fact that I have footprints in the areas I serve – meaning I have walked the same walk as those I seek to help. So, the knowledge is coming from personal and professional expertise. My agency has actually grown because of word of mouth. Yes, I have a presence on social media, but what has truly helped is previous clients whom I have serviced continue to endorse my agency to others in need of similar help. It has not always been easy though because I have experienced dry periods of business. To overcome this challenge, I changed my mentality so that I could continue to serve and resorted to posting more on social media and studying current career trends. This has been one of the biggest lessons I have learned along the way as well. When it comes to telling the world about my brand, I always fall back to the fact that I have been equipped with knowledge, skills and abilities to train and educate those interested in federal employment. I gained my expertise from being in the role and not through another company who provides career services or through an educational format. I want the world to also know that when you hire me, your service goes beyond basic resume development, we discuss goals and options to obtain those goals.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my besties visited me, we would definitely do a picnic in one of the beautiful parks in the area. Since I thoroughly believe in living and capturing the moment, I would probably schedule a bestie photo shoot on their first time to the area. We would eat from one of the local restaurants – something that can only be found in the area not a chain. We would do axe throwing to release some tension and do a float session to relax.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say my biggest supporters have been my husband, my Mom and by best friends Eboni and Zujei. They provide feedback in every manner possible to help me be successful in my brand.
