We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Playing it “safe” has always been my aim due to growing up in really unfavorable conditions (I would come home and wonder if the lights or power would be on each month). But I had to quickly learn if there is one thing worth betting on, it is definitely myself! When I decided to fully pursue my social media marketing agency, Sufficient Success, I knew that I needed some structure and insight on how the best businesses operate and function. I invested in a mastermind with coach Kay Hillman, and in less than 3 months I had already received my ROI plus some! Taking risks no longer scare me as much, because I know the gifts that have been placed inside of me will always make room for me. I am free to be authentically me, and there are no rewards without a little risk involved.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Deep down I think I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, but I had no idea that what I do now was even possible. When I started Sufficient Success, my goal was to help women in their careers, but after losing my job in 2017 I became more uncertain of relying on a corporation to fulfill my family’s needs. (This is the part where I want to remind everyone if you have a business idea and your passion changes, it’s okay to pivot with it). So I took a break for a little while and landed an opportunity creating graphics for two small businesses. I fell in love. I would stay up all night designing and not even grow tired, because my passion was ignited. This quickly spread to a full blown Social Media Marketing Agency – from the content strategy to graphic design to captions and hashtags, Sufficient Success can handle all of your needs. I have been coined the Digital Design Strategist because of my ability to take you from nothing to a full digital design in mere moments. My brand caters to helping black female entrepreneurs and bloggers get unstuck in their content and marketing strategy. If I have learned anything in this pivot to being intentional with the work I do, it is that the right people will find you if you are consistent and show up giving value day in and day out.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are visiting me (pre-Covid of course), we will definitely be at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium cheering on the Atlanta Falcons or SunTrust Park rooting for the Braves. I am a lover of ALL sports, and getting in on the action by being live is the best way to do it! After the game, we can grab an All Star breakfast at the Waffle House, and then head to get some amazing ice cream from Jeni’s. When it is offseason, we will have to checkout the Georgia Aquarium and make sure we catch the dolphin show, followed by a tour of CNN. The trip will end with a stop at the College Football Hall of Fame which is an experience like none other (oh, and there is Chick-fil-a – 8 pc nuggets and lemonade me please). These are some of the best things to experience in Atlanta! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people and aspects of my life that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I want to dedicate this shoutout to my husband Corey. He is literally my best friend, and no matter what the crazy idea I have, he supports me 1000%. He has taken on extra duties in the house and with the kids just to give me more time to focus on building my business without limitations. He is the reason I believe generational wealth is accessible to us, and he works with me to build out both of our businesses to position us for our future. I also have to thank my mom who overcame so much as a single parent. She encourages me to keep going every single day. And one last plug for my absolute favorite book, Talent is Overrated by Geoff Colvin. I read it once a year to remind me that the best of the best have perfected their skills each and everyday, so we must do the same if we want to see success.
