We had the good fortune of connecting with Alice Dinh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alice, why did you pursue a creative career?
Taking on the artistic and creative route was a decision on a whim. I recognized from a young age my strength in the arts, however, I never seriously considered it until it came down to college applications in late high school. With my selected field of media creation through videos and photos, it was my fascination and lack of knowledge which drew me down this path. Initially, photography was a hobby that I temporarily picked up in middle school. I was more inclined to play an instrument or draw in my downtime. My upbringing engrained my mindset to pursue a field in the medical or business route. Intuitively, I knew that although a secure and high-paying job was expected of me, the thought terrified me and I knew it wasn’t something that I would be fulfilled with.
When I started my boutique media studio, Joint Pixels, it was a decision I made after becoming more confident in my abilities and taking on a handful of projects. Being able to get in the zone when filming or photographing, then sitting down at the computer to edit, I found myself entering a flow and visualizing exactly how to piece a project together like a puzzle. Learning more about the craft and business while engaging with folks I work with opens me up to new insights regularly. It is a satisfying emotion that makes me increasingly fall in love each day with what I set up for myself.
I feel that being able to follow my intuition in life, bleeds through my career as I must trust my intuition when it comes to making creative decisions or moving in the field. Despite it all, I’m only just beginning and I am excited to see what the future holds and the things that I will learn.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Despite taking on artistic and creative projects, Joint Pixels is a business when it comes to handling operations and such. From prospecting, and coordinating with folks from beginning to end, delegating work, as well as handling finances, and making decisions on investments. What sets me apart from others is my distinct style and ability to connect with all of my clients. I pride myself on being able to dissect a situation and being able to artfully capture and highlight an event, interview, or photo through communication and building personal connections. I love keeping things lighthearted yet professional by cracking jokes and learning more about why my clients do what they do to be able to display their vision. Getting where I am today business-wise was not easy.
There are many tribulations faced internally and externally which made me question my decisions. Also being able to balance between business and art, or life and work can be difficult at times. However, being able to problem-solve while staying disciplined, confident, and curious are the factors that allow me to strive forward. As a minority and a woman-owned business in a field that is male-dominated, I am excited to see where my passion will take me. I am also excited for this year as I have recently made investments that will allow me to push my creativity forward and for the passion projects that I have in store to execute since I have been more business focused rather than artistic as I would like to be.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my aunts. They are entrepreneurs who migrated here from Vietnam with nothing and they have been a large inspiration and support to me. Their character, drive, and success help me believe that I can achieve anything I want in this world. Also shoutout to my significant other. They are always there to listen to my passion and struggles to help encourage and affirm me toward the direction I need to be in.
Finally, of course, a shoutout to my mom who also migrated here from Vietnam, Despite being a single mother, she did everything in her power and made many sacrifices to ensure that I was safe, that we had food on the table and a roof over our heads.
