We had the good fortune of connecting with Alanna Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alanna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking plays a major role in my life and career. Without risks, there’s a chance of fear. If fear drives your decisions, then I feel. you can never truly take full control over your life. Therefore, with being an upcoming model and actress, I many potentially risky decisions come into play. I’ve recently thought about dropping everything and moving to NYC to further my career and broaden my range of opportunities. However, it is a risk because I’m only 2 semesters away from graduating college and my family always talks about the “What ifs.” They always ask me, “What if that doesn’t work out?” or “What if you can’t do this?” However, these words aren’t in my vocabulary because when you come up with a backup plan, you’re expecting failure, which is something I refuse to do.
These risks and my mindset have even driven a slight wedge between my mom and I, but no matter what, the only person who knows what’s best for you is you. You have to go out and chase your dreams because no one else will do it for you.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a model and actress, isn’t easy. I’m still working every single day to be where I want to be in my career and I’ve got a long way to go. As a model, being only 5’1” makes things extremely difficult because I’m not taken seriously. I have to work overtime to even have the potential of being looked at. There’s been many points where I’ve considered giving up, but I’d be letting down that 3-year-old little girl inside of me who’s had these dreams forever. I’ve had to learn that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Therefore, I’ve been actively working to present myself as a hardworking and dedicated model by participating in small fashion shows, doing TFP photoshoots, and using this to build a resume and portfolio. I’ve gotten a lot of “No’s,” but I won’t dare stop until I get a “Yes” and even after that I’ll keep going. The work is never done.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite places to visit in Atlanta are The Shoppes at Buckhead and Skyview Atlanta, but aside from these places there’s so many fun things to do. To start off the week, we’d definitely have to check out a Hawks game or a concert at State Farm Arena then grab a burger from Shake Shack to round out the whole experience.
Next, we’d have to go to Centennial Olympic Park and Skyview Atlanta to get an amazing view of the city and take pictures right in the heart of Atlanta.
Another great option aesthetically is to visit the High Museum of Art, followed by brunch at The Hive in Buckhead and a stroll through the Shoppes at Buckhead.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my brother, Malcolm, who has Autism, but supports me through everything. He’s what drives me to pursue my dreams and become the best version of myself possible.
