We had the good fortune of connecting with Akilah Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Akilah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own nonprofit was a deeply personal decision inspired by both my upbringing and my passions. Growing up, I witnessed the power of community and the profound impact of support systems, whether through family, church, or neighbors. I wanted to replicate that sense of care on a larger scale to address needs that I saw going unmet.

The idea began with a question: “How can I contribute something meaningful that extends beyond myself?” I realized that my talents and resources could be channeled to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

I also knew I wanted to build something that would inspire others to get involved. A nonprofit isn’t just about charity, it’s about creating opportunities for collaboration, awareness, and empowerment. With that in mind, I focused on establishing a foundation that would not only serve the community but also reflect the values of compassion and dedication I hold dear.

For me, the process was driven by faith, purpose, and a vision of leaving the world better than I found it. My nonprofit is a way to honor that calling and to give back in ways that truly matter.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the things I’m most proud of is staying true to my passions while overcoming obstacles to build a fulfilling career and life. Whether it’s launching my nonprofit, excelling in my Masters of nursing program, or building my clothing brand, each milestone reflects hard work, resilience, and faith. Right now, I’m especially excited about creating meaningful change through my nonprofit and inspiring others to follow their dreams despite the odds.

My professional journey has been anything but linear. It’s been a mix of intentional decisions, bold leaps, and perseverance. It started with my academic foundation at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where I earned a degree in sport science fitness management, and continued with my pursuit of a master’s degree at Emory University, the nation’s #1 nursing school. Along the way, I’ve balanced passions for technical dance, entrepreneurship, and giving back through my nonprofit and community work.

No, it wasn’t easy. Balancing Nursing school, personal goals, and financial constraints has been one of the biggest challenges. There were moments of doubt and exhaustion, but I’ve relied on faith, family, and a strong support system to keep going. I’ve learned to set clear priorities, practice disciplined time management, and celebrate small wins along the way. Surrounding myself with people who believe in me and staying focused on my long-term vision have been key to overcoming obstacles.

1. Resilience is everything. Life throws curveballs, but your ability to adapt and push through makes the difference.
2. Faith and purpose guide the journey. Staying grounded in what I believe in has kept me focused, even during tough times.
3. Invest in yourself. Education, self-care, and personal growth are essential to achieving success.
4. Community matters. Collaboration and support are vital … none of us succeed alone.

I want the world to know that my story is one of perseverance, faith, and a commitment to creating something bigger than myself. Whether through my nonprofit, my business, or my professional career, my goal has always been to inspire and uplift others. My brand reflects values of authenticity, resilience, and excellence, and I hope to leave a legacy of meaningful impact.

Ultimately, I’m here to prove that with determination, faith, and a clear vision, you can turn any dream into reality.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Atlanta for a week, I’d ensure they experienced the city’s vibrant culture, delicious food, and rich history while indulging in the excitement that makes Atlanta truly unique. From iconic landmarks to hidden gems, this week-long adventure would highlight the best Atlanta has to offer.

We’d kick off the trip with a hearty breakfast at Atlanta Breakfast Club, famous for its perfectly crispy chicken and waffles. Located near Centennial Olympic Park, it’s the perfect spot to fuel up before exploring some of Atlanta’s most iconic attractions. We’d spend the afternoon strolling through the park, soaking in its rich history as the centerpiece of the 1996 Olympics, before heading to the Georgia Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. The exhibits never fail to amaze, especially the massive whale sharks. Next, we’d dive into the World of Coca-Cola, learning the fascinating history behind one of the world’s most famous brands. To wrap up our first day, we’d head to Ponce City Market. This bustling space offers everything from delicious tacos at Minero to breathtaking views of the city skyline from The Roof, where we’d enjoy games, cocktails, and the perfect sunset.

The second day would focus on Atlanta’s art and culture scene. We’d start with brunch at Le Petit Marché in the charming Kirkwood neighborhood, savoring their unique and fresh takes on breakfast classics. Next, we’d head to the High Museum of Art, where we’d explore its impressive collection of contemporary and classical works. Afterward, we’d visit the BeltLine Eastside Trail, a multi-use path that combines art, culture, and outdoor beauty. As we walked or rented bikes, we’d take in the vibrant murals and public art installations along the trail, stopping for a coffee at Krog Street Market.

Midweek, we’d delve into Atlanta’s history. Starting the morning with breakfast at The Flying Biscuit Café in Candler Park, we’d then head to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. This inspiring visit would include a tour of Dr. King’s childhood home and Ebenezer Baptist Church. In the afternoon, we’d explore Oakland Cemetery, a peaceful and historic resting place filled with beautiful gardens and monuments. Dinner would be at Mary Mac’s Tea Room, a beloved Atlanta institution known for authentic Southern comfort food.

Thursday would be all about fun and relaxation. We’d start with a yoga class at Piedmont Park, followed by a picnic overlooking the park’s serene lake. Afterward, we’d spend the afternoon shopping and exploring boutiques in Little Five Points, Atlanta’s eclectic and bohemian neighborhood. Dinner would be at Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, where the brisket and ribs are legendary. For nightlife, we’d head to Edgewood Avenue, known for its vibrant bars and live music.

As the week winds down, Friday would focus on exploring Atlanta’s growing food scene. Brunch at South City Kitchen in Midtown would start the day on a delicious note, with their famous shrimp and grits setting the tone. We’d then head to Atlantic Station for some shopping and catch a movie at the outdoor Screen on the Green, For dinner, Canoe along the Chattahoochee River would offer a scenic and serene dining experience.

Our final day would be a mix of adventure and relaxation. After breakfast at Home Grown GA for some soul food, we’d venture to Stone Mountain Park. Whether hiking the trails or taking the cable car to the summit, we’d enjoy stunning views of Atlanta. Back in the city, we’d end the week with a memorable dinner at Staplehouse, an innovative dining experience, and perhaps a nightcap at Skyline Park.

This week-long Atlanta journey would be packed with excitement, delicious food, and unforgettable memories—a perfect way to share the magic of my city with someone I care about.
