We had the good fortune of connecting with AJ Marietta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi AJ, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve learned that every meaningful opportunity comes with some level of risk. Early in my career, I realized that waiting until everything feels certain often means missing out on growth. For me, risk isn’t about being reckless—it’s about making informed decisions, trusting your abilities, and being willing to take action despite uncertainty.

One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was stepping away from the traditional path and building businesses of my own. Launching The Ultimate Lab Authority required investing time, resources, and energy into a vision that wasn’t guaranteed to succeed. There were moments when progress felt slow, but I remained committed because I believed in the impact the business could have on others.

Risk has taught me resilience. Not every decision works out exactly as planned, but every challenge provides valuable lessons that help you improve and move forward. I’ve learned that success isn’t about avoiding mistakes; it’s about being willing to adapt, learn, and continue showing up.

Today, I view risk as a necessary part of growth. The opportunities that have had the greatest impact on my career all started with a decision to move forward before I had every answer. If you’re willing to learn, stay persistent, and keep refining your approach, taking calculated risks can open doors you never imagined possible.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Ultimate Lab Authority was created to make specialized laboratory and specimen collection training more accessible to aspiring professionals across the country. What sets us apart is that our training is built from real-world industry experience, not just textbook information. My goal has always been to provide practical, affordable education that helps people gain skills, create opportunities for themselves, and confidently enter the field.

One of the things I’m most proud of is helping students take the first step toward building a new career path. Many people discover the lab industry by accident and don’t realize how many opportunities exist. Through training, mentorship, and education, I’m able to help bridge that gap and provide a roadmap that I wish more people had access to when I was getting started.

My journey to entrepreneurship has not been a straight line. Before launching The Ultimate Lab Authority, I built my career through hands-on experience in specimen collection, laboratory services, business operations, and corporate leadership roles. Those experiences taught me not only the technical side of the industry but also the importance of customer service, compliance, and creating systems that help businesses grow. Eventually, I saw an opportunity to combine my industry knowledge with my passion for teaching and launched The Ultimate Lab Authority.

The journey has definitely not been easy. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced challenges ranging from building brand awareness to navigating the realities of launching a business in a highly specialized niche. There have been moments when progress was slower than I hoped, but I’ve learned that consistency often matters more than speed. Every challenge has provided valuable lessons about patience, adaptability, and perseverance.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success rarely happens overnight. Social media often highlights the results, but not the countless hours of work happening behind the scenes. Building a business requires faith, resilience, and the willingness to keep moving forward even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.

What I want people to know about my brand is that The Ultimate Lab Authority is about more than courses and certifications. It’s about creating opportunities, sharing knowledge, and helping others build confidence in themselves and their professional future. My mission is to make industry education more accessible and to show people that with the right training and determination, they can create opportunities they may have never thought possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the things I love most about the Atlanta area is that there’s truly something for everyone. If a friend were visiting for a week, I’d start with a trip to downtown Atlanta to explore Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium, and the World of Coca-Cola. Those are iconic Atlanta experiences and a great introduction to the city.

For food, I’d make sure they experienced Atlanta’s diverse restaurant scene, from classic Southern comfort food to some of the incredible locally owned restaurants throughout the city. A visit to Ponce City Market and the Atlanta BeltLine would definitely be on the itinerary because they showcase the energy, creativity, and culture that make Atlanta unique.

I’d also take them to Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta, which has become one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon or evening. If they enjoy the outdoors, we’d visit Callaway Gardens and spend some time exploring the beautiful parks and green spaces throughout the metro area.

What I appreciate most about this area is the balance between opportunity, community, and culture. Atlanta is a place where entrepreneurs, creatives, and professionals from all backgrounds can thrive. There’s always something new to discover, which is one of the reasons I’m proud to live and build my business here.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the students, aspiring entrepreneurs, and professionals who have trusted me to be part of their journey. Building a business can sometimes feel like you’re creating something in isolation, but every student who enrolls in a course, every client who books a consultation, and every person who reaches out with questions reminds me why I started The Ultimate Lab Authority in the first place.

I’d also like to recognize the mentors, colleagues, and industry professionals who have shared their knowledge with me throughout my career. None of us succeed entirely on our own. Every lesson, conversation, and opportunity helped shape the educator and entrepreneur I am today.

Most importantly, I want to encourage anyone who is working toward a goal that feels bigger than their current circumstances. The people who continue to learn, grow, and invest in themselves often don’t receive enough recognition. Their determination inspires me every day, and they deserve a tremendous amount of credit in my story.
