We had the good fortune of connecting with Addison Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Addison, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The biggest habit that I feel helps me to succeed or move closer to success is consistency. Whether it is consistency in the imagery I create or the way business is conducted I feel it is a very important habit to practice. Consistency has always been an important trait that I value because it provides a certain satisfaction of knowing what the outcome will be. Consistency is extremely important to provide to clients that hire me to photograph their projects. It is important to grow as a photographer and I feel that being consistent at something will foster a certain type of growth and creativity. I enjoying trying new ideas and taking on new projects that challenge my but as a business I always attempt to keep a certain look or feel to the images that I create. Providing this consistency to my clients has helped create the brand identity I portray.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I grew up in the coastal area of Wilmington, NC and received a BFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2009. It was not the best time to graduate as an artist or photographer as economies were in a deep recession but it only made the challenge of starting a business more rewarding. Taking risks during a time like that was easy and helped me explore many different avenues of photography. The biggest thing for me was staying consistent in the direction of the type of photography I wanted to create. I worked for several different companies in the photography industry to learn how I wanted to work as a business and slowly but steadily grew. Meeting new people is the biggest way to grow as a business and individual. I owe a lot of my photography success to happy clients that refer me to new clients by word of mouth. You also never know who the next person you meet will be and how they could impact your life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta has so many amazing places and events to attend. It is also located geographically close to a lot of amazing landscape features. It depends on the time of year you are visiting but I would show my friends around the amazing neighborhood festivals that happen in the spring and fall months around the city. We could take a bike ride to any of the city of Atlanta parks and then pick a nearby restaurant to grab some food at is always a fun time. For the night life, I love to see live music and there are some great venues in East Atlanta area. Atlanta even has local in-town farms such as Love Is Love farm, Haylene Green the Garden Queen, and farmers markets in every neighborhood where you can get fresh organic foods. My favorite place in Atlanta to visit and is a photography client is the Georgia Aquarium. I’m a nature and ocean lover so this venue makes Atlanta feel like home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate a shoutout to my wife Meredith Hill. Meredith is a wonderful support to my photography business and helps create ideas and motivations to keep it on track for success. She has a great eye for helping me narrow down ideas and photo for portfolio selections. She is a great story teller as well.
