We had the good fortune of connecting with Aasiya Muslim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aasiya, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?

As a single mother of three that has a 22, 19 and 15 year old. They’ve seen me struggle, they’ve seen me thrive; but what they haven’t witness was me given up.

My children have learned to adjust in many situations and has done so gracefully; never making me feel guilty about not being able to provide the things they were accustomed to during the buildout and opening of the restaurant. We went through two very hard years and my children adapted very well and actually stepped up and helped out.

They saw and respected the sacrifices needed to be made and had my back completely.

My daughter is a full time college student, my oldest son just launched his clothing line and my youngest is passionate about investing.

All three work at my restaurant part time and do a phenomenal job at contributing to its success. They understand that hard work, determination and dedication pays off; in addition to knowing dreams really do come true.

What should our readers know about your business?

I’m the most proud of the fact that I didn’t give up! People have a tendency to discourage your dreams based on their own personal fears of failure.

I’m a risk taker; always have been and always will be. No; is never an option.

Once I set my mind to doing something I just do it, Owning my own restaurant was my dream, We started a full fledged buildout of a 2200 square foot gutted building with no financial funding. What my business partner and I budgeted was well below what we actually ended up spending. We wasted and lost so much money from being scammed and trusting people that we should have vetted more thoroughly in addition to the original timeline being prolonged for several months and every issue that could have happened actually did happen.

During this entire process I have learned that people aren’t who they say they are, I’m stronger than I thought and I have people that believed in me so much that not only did they encourage me; they invested in me as well.

I also know that God is real and that he showed up every-time right on time. My faith is the strongest it has ever been and my relationship with God is one that is extremely important to me.

What I hope Scrum-did-daily-ump-tious exudes is passion, love and family. When you walk through the door; we want you to feel comfortable, loved on and satisfied in every way. When I cook; it’s with passion and it’s with love.

Every detail that has gone into this project was intentional and we put our hearts, our minds, our souls, our sweat, blood and tears into it. We pray that when you visit you can feel it all.

I love what we’ve created and I love what I do. I have the best job in the entire world, loving on people through food.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The belt line for some outdoor activities and shopping.

A hawks vs bucks game (I’m from Milwaukee)

The consulate for dinner

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My parents they believed in my dreams and encouraged me to keep going even when there were times I wanted to give up.

My father passed away September 8th 2023. My proudest and most happiest moment was that he was able to see the restaurant open and thriving!
