We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Diane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Jasmine Diane, LLC to create generational wealth for my family doing something that I loved. I wanted to create a business that my children could be proud of and benefit from. I knew that God gave me a lot of talents and aspirations and I wasn’t going to waste any of it.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of the tribe of Black women that I have been able to meet and build lasting relationships with. I am so blessed to know Black influencers, authors, mothers, and wives. They inspire me to push further with my brand. I got to where I am today in business by putting in work to learn new skills, write content when I was tired, and saying no to excuses. Candidly speaking it took a lot of sacrifices to build a strong brand that has stood the test of time. I remember skipping parties in college to write blog posts often. Now, I invest my paycheck into courses, tools, and software to help me sustain my business (newsletters, social scheduling, custom domains, etc.). It isn’t always easy to put time and money into my brand, but it is always worth it. I consider myself a huge asset, so I don’t mind doing what it takes to succeed. There aren’t any handouts in business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start a sunny day in Atlanta with a coffee then head to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Black History feeds my soul. We’d spend a few hours there then go something yummy to eat. I’m such a sucker for soul food in Atlanta. I would have to take my best friend to Busy Bees for lunch. I would order the no-meat meal option and get mac n cheese, greens, and candied yams. Then to the park to walk off all of the calories. After that it would be nap time. For the evening, I’d go to Bar Taco to enjoy their patio and good vibes. I’d order us some of their guacomole and tacos to enjoy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my amazing husband, Steven G. He is the brains behind a lot of my business moves. He pushed me to create a business that makes money. I was giving everything away before he taught me how to charge for my services and value my work. He encourages me to take on new challenges and takes all of my pictures. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his love, support, and guidance over the last 5+ years. Even as my friend, he was pushing me to take my brand further. I’m so blessed and grateful that he asked me to be his wife.
