We had the good fortune of connecting with Colbanna La’Rue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Colbanna, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
My faith within myself and God reminds me every day to never give up. I’ve came an extremely long way within my journey, so I would be letting myself down if I just quit now. If I was chosen by the breath of life to be awake during this human experience. I owe it to myself and my ancestors to exist freely by uncovering all parts this beautiful life has to offer. Something else that helps me to keep going is basking in the present moment. With each passing second, I am living in the dreams that I once prayed for in the past. Moreover, as long as I know that I am growing at my own pace in a forward momentum, my inner knowing that my reality will always catch up to my dreams will forever be grounded.
 

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career as an Artist revolves around balance. I am a Fashion Spiritualist that has created my artistic world to run hand in hand with my spirituality. My creations reflect the freeness and wildness that comes with being divinely awoken to yourself. As we grow, the world is designed to steer humanity farther from our inner child, and my only goal is to help people innerstand that the human experience is not to be understood. Balance is a patriarchal theme in my career so I can take control and become my own time master throughout my day. My alter egos/multiple personalities are embodied throughout my brands. I turned my alter ego “Colbanna La’Rue” as the face of my brands. Colbanna is a beautiful character, that exudes confidence. She does not care what anyone says and dares to push the limitations. I push barriers and make a home in discomfort. I am a multi-faced being who loves to draw, write, paint, garden, sculpt, dance, sew, yoga, and model as “Colby” (my real name) is the creator, leading me to pursue my Fashion Wellness Brand, Apothecary, and Multimedia Art Studio.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In my opinion, Atlanta is the best for just having a nice day at the park being surrounded by nature. If I were to have friends or family visit, Centennial Olympic and Piedmont Park would be my go to’s, especially the museums. However, I do have a secret location park that is absolutely my favorite the location is very secluded. I also like to go to The Plant Shoppe in Ponce City Market, which is perfect to also enjoy the Beltline! When the city gets dark, I love to go out dancing to rave and vogue. Underground Atlanta and the Boiler Room are top tier locations to let loose while listening to legendary music. In contrary, I am quite introverted and only go outside with intention. I do honestly spend most of my time in my safe space at my apartment creation. There’s such power within stillness, and that’s where my peace resides.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family deserves major recognition in my story, especially my parents. Without my dad, I would not know what it means to have such dedication and persistence to responsibilities. He’s a kind-hearted, observant gentleman, that taught me patience and silence can be just as powerful as movement and noise. My love for plants stem from my father as well, as I were to always help him, and my grandma take care of the yard. There’s also nothing like a mother’s love. My mom is groundbreakingly incredible and will always be there when I have no on else. With her having a heart condition, she has had to undergo many surgeries including open heart surgery. My mom is a walking miracle! As a daughter, my mother is my heart and my #1 fan! She represents all aspects of strength, resilience, confidence, love, and softness. I have no choice to give up on myself, because if my parents, grandparents, and ancestors choose to not give up, then why should I? It is in my bloodline to bask in the successful legacy I am creating within my brand.
