We had the good fortune of connecting with Darius Bucknor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darius, what are you inspired by?
I’ve always used my personality and style as inspiration for me. Growing up in Atlanta, I idolized; Andre 3000, 1/2 of Atlanta’s own “Outkast”, Steve Harvey, and Fonzworth Bentley. With each gentlemen having their own unique style, I studied them, and from their I went on to develop my own style that tailored to me, “Putting my own stank on it” as I would say. My passion with being authentic keeps me pushing, because I get to express my personality through each Knot I create, making what I do that much more enjoyable.

What should our readers know about your business?
So I moved to Miami, Fla back in 2010 in search of who I needed to become as a man and experience a different environment that I was use to regularly. I came up with the name “Tha Knotty Guy” because I needed a creative play on words that would say alot in a bold way, and I found that being authentic and genuine would be my best route to take. It just gives people the sense of who you really and truly are. It makes it easier for people to gravitate to your type of energy. All of these attributes I use all throughout my creative process when I’m designing different Knots. From the type of fabric, to the stitching itself EVERYTHING is authentic. For clients/ customers to trust in me to deliver a quality product that is made with a genuine heart is what I’m most proud of. Even though running a business is NEVER easy, doing something that I love and is passionate about makes all of it worth while. I always say to myself, “Even if I don’t sell a Knot everyday, YOU GONE KNOW IM OUT HERE just of my consistency and authenticity alone.” I just want to my part in changing the narrative and perception of the black man in the form of fashion and complete “KNOTTYNESS”!!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Sunday we would go to Sunday brunch at Ray’s on the river. Their brunch is amazing and it’s buffet style with bottomless mimosas!

Monday we would pull up at cirque daiquiri bar and grill for all-you-can-eat crab legs with one of their bomb frozen daiquiris

Tuesdays is food truck Tuesdays at Taylor Brawner Park for a relaxing evening. Enjoying food from 12 food trucks while laying at the park.

Wednesday we can hit up the Skyline Park at Ponce City Market. They have a rooftop carnival, bar, and probably one of the sickest views of all Atlanta!

Thursday we can hit up painted pin, puts hack, or bury the hatchet. Painted pin is a dope spot where it’s like bowling with a twist. The put shack is new but is an indoor mini golf spot for adults. Bury hatchet is super dope. It’s axe throwing where they have giant Jenna and Foosball as well.

Friday we can head to my restaurant, Mary Macs Tea Room where can enjoy some real southern comfort food. Then head across the street to Boogalou where the atmosphere is nice and we can bop to some good music.

Saturday we can hit up The Trap Music Museum owned by T.I. then head to over to the world famous Compound night club!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout Latifah Bucknor who is also my wife. My biggest support system and amazing massage therapist, Latifah never cease to amaze me with her professionalism and all around knowledge about massaging and running her own business. I want to recognize her for motivating me to be great I’m every aspect of my own life.
