We had the good fortune of connecting with Esohe Omoruyi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Esohe, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because I felt like sometimes you have so much artistry, ideas, and the talent to execute such, it shouldn’t go to waste. As soon as I realized that I had something special, I really decided to hone in on that. It is very necessary for black people to go after everything our hearts desire. We deserve that, and so much more.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to say that I get compared to so many greats from Jazmine Sullivan to Summer Walker, but my sound is so unique at the same time I sound like nobody, but myself. I am most proud of my ability to perfectly mesh and blend afrobeats and rnb together to make a refreshing twist to music. I am also proud of my progress and excited to see how far I can go. I believe that hard work and dedication has gotten me to where I am today. Practice makes me closer and closer to the artist I’m striving to be. It was not easy to get started on this journey, but being stopped constantly by supporters in real life has made the journey even more worth it. Receiving that recognition makes you feel like none of your hard work is in vain. The support makes all challenges easier. I’ve learned really to just give it to God, and to trust myself and the process.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend and I are both from Atlanta, so here are some of our favorite spots. If we want something classic like a philly cheesesteak with wings and fries with a fruit punch lemonade mix, we’re going to American Deli. If we are craving authentic Mexican tacos, we always go to Taqueria & Birrieria Las Cuatro Milpas. If she wanted bomb nachos and margaritas, I would definitely introduce her to Tin Lizzy’s. We love going to World Taste for their afrofusion cuisine; the palm butter wings and fufu tacos are to die for! At the end of a chill weekend day, we can go to Ace Atlanta to enjoy afrobeats and chill vibes.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my friends, family, mentees, and all of my supporters. Y’all are apart or the reason for this recognition, and I can’t thank you all enough! You’re all a part of me! Love y’all dearly!
