We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Naè Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Naè, how do you think about risk?
Successful entrepreneurship involves taking risks. If you don’t embrace risk-taking, you may want to rethink being a business owner… Taking risks although necessary, does not mean going into business blindly and then expecting great results. Risks in entrepreneurship involves calculated, strategic planning, implementation and hard work.
As a CEO I don’t want to look back when I’m older and wonder if things could have went another way. I refuse to regret having tried this or that– I know that failure is a part of my growth process, and a really great learning tool. I also know the one thing I might regret is not ever having tried; that would absolutely haunt me every day.
Nobody can really be sure if risks will pay off, no matter how calculated they may be. But this should not stop you from taking risks. If you want your business to succeed, risks are necessary. According to a quote by Frederick Wilcox, “Progress always involves risks. You can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first.”
Some risks may not pay off, but an optimistic risk-taker will always look at failure as an opportunity to learn. Michael Stelzner, Social Media Examiner owner writes that the willingness to experiment with new ideas is key to business growth. As the ole adage says, “nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
Failure will teach you to think outside the box and move with intention. Just remember all risks aren’t exactly good ones, but failure enhances your fortitude, learn from your mistakes and move on.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is named after me Naè Thompson PR Agency | Management Group, NTPR Agency for short. I think my thought process is what sets me apart from colleagues. I’m an astute business women with more 16+ years in the public relations field and entertainment industry. I’ve literally walked in the shoes of my clients. I represent independent artistry and know what it’s like to want people to hear my music, be on the radio, make sales, and tour– I absolutely get it! I also understand the power of relationships and the necessity of a great network. I understand hard work and the fact that we must consistently reinvent processes that cultivate our journey, and forward progression.
I occupy my space in the industry because I’m on a daily task to learn more, help more, and DO MORE. I’m a forever learner. I keep my ear to the pulse of the industry and build mutually beneficial relationships, events and opportunities. My journey hasn’t been hard, but I won’t say it’s been easy either. Research is everything!
Some lessons I’ve learned over the years is to remain teachable… even though we have a great deal of information at times others can share insight that we could use. I would also say don’t take yourself too serious, meaning this is a space you’ve never walked in before allow yourself the space to learn how to be CEO. Also, be friendly, you never know who you’re standing next to, or with and that person could ideally be a game changer for you.
NTPR Agency MAXIMIZES Exposure for artists through creative public relations strategies that push the boundaries of music marketing. NTPR has become one of the fastest-growing PR agencies in the Southeastern Region with an in-house team of publicists, project managers, radio servicers, digital marketers, graphic designers, and video editors leading every campaign.
Change is inevitable — the question is not when but how. The music industry evolves daily. NTPR is data-driven, exploiting new media opportunities while coaching clients through the choppy waters of the music industry and social media strategies.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m originally from Cali and love the outdoors and of course amazing dining experiences. Before Covid I hung out a great deal at The Gathering Spot for both events and work. I don’t drink but Spondivits, Louisiana Bistreaux, and Ruth’s Chris Steak House would definitely be on the itinerary for meals. We’d hang out in some of the towns great recording facilities like Patchwork, and network. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have an amazing community that surrounds and undergirds my entrepreneurial efforts from my spouse Dr. Corey Thompson, and children, to my parents who were both entrepreneurs as well to my spiritual colleagues who challenge me to do more, be more, and help more. I’m also an avid reader and really appreciate books like, Million Dollar Women, Traffic Sales & Profit, and Believe Bigger. I could go on and on.
I’m also grateful for my extended families support as well. I’m so grateful for my grandmother who believed in me, she made herself available to assist me with my children while pursuing my educational journey. I always think, failure is not an option as so many sacrificed on my behalf be it time, responsibilities, or just normal daily tasks I had, and have help. I’m extremely grateful.
