We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaheen Solomon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaheen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When starting SOLOmedia, there was a void, I felt, for creativity. I was lacking the freedom of artistic expression.
With that, I started an “expression brand.” An all inclusive branding, marketing, communications, and public relations firm that I knew would offer creative expression in working with small businesses, community organizations and people seeking public office. SOLOmedia would offer clients the opportunity to be themselves – to hone in on what makes them special and amplify their exceptionality.
SOLOmedia began as my outlet for lack of creative expression.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
SOLOmedia is an all inclusive and fully integrated, full-service marketing, branding and digital communications firm established in 2017. We pride ourselves in delivering tangible results for a broad diversity of clients and are experts at generating new business and encouraging clients to spend their dollars wisely.
Over the years, we’ve partnered with clients that seek to make a difference in their communities – lawyers, judges, sheriffs, commissioners, and other elected officials, positively steering their campaign efforts with communications; mailers, marketing, commercials, etc.
We’ve overcome many obstacles as a small business. As a smaller boutique firm, access to larger amenities has been difficult. However, we pride ourselves in providing cost effective, quality and professional services to our clients. Word of mouth continues to grow our base of supporters and clients.
It’s our goal to move small businesses and community members forward, no matter the endeavor. It’s our passion to provide quality over quantity and our goal to continually provide the best in communications and public relations services.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Interesting. As an avid foodie, I would take them on a tour of countries – throughout Atlanta with food.
First, we’d visit Pho Da Loi, an amazing Vietnamese eatery with a few locations around Atlanta. My favorite location is located in Jonesboro. They have authentic beef pho featuring tripe, tendon and meatballs.
Secondly, we’d visit Buford Hwy, just off North Druid Hills Road. As the road winds up going north, you’re able to experience various cultures of foods – eating until your hearts delight.
When visiting Atlanta, you have to visit The King Monument – to understand history and the fight towards equality. Then, onward to the GA Aquarium to see the dolphin show OR the Atlanta History Center for a night of jazz and music, after which, visiting my favorite burger spot in College Park, Brake Pad.
Not to forget the children. Zoo Atlanta has breath-taking exhibits that feature animals from all around the world. Perfect place to enjoy a family outing. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people along the way that have assisted, guided and propelled me into the person that I strive to become, daily. Many that believed in my purpose and passion to achieve, no matter the circumstances. As a ward of the State of Georgia, there were many times where a wrong turn could’ve been detrimental to the goals that I’d set for myself. I would like to thank my mom, the Rev. Thelma Hill – Perrymon for raising me as her own. Instilling in me the drive to “do right,” even when no one was looking – building true character.
A special thanks to my wife, Reine, for her consistent love, support and drive to position our family and lives in a better place. As my wife, she continues to build me up on the foundation she’s created and for that, I’m forever grateful.
