We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandria Higgs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandria, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Artists are people driven by the tension to communicate and the desire to hide.” -Unknown

I heard this quote years ago and I can’t remember where, however, I relate to this quote so much because I express my self better thorough words or music. Growing up I was apart of a band and was the songwriter and a poet. I still write poetry to this day and in the process of writing a book. Most artists have messages hidden or blatant in their music and almost everyone can relate to someone or some lyric. Music, allow artists to say and express themselves without having the back lash of family or people judging them. Now, people are still going to judge but that means that music isn’t for that particular person.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of how quickly my team and I were able to produce VNIS’ EP last year. This idea all came about last August during quarantine. My artist I used to be neighbors and one night he showed me his catalog and from there my company and an artist were born! In just a few short months we dropped three singles and an EP, two of his songs made it into the rotation for a radio station down in Miami along with an exclusive interview with the station, and to top it all off I booked him a live show for him to perform his new EP to wrap up the year! I am excited that live music is coming back and for all the new music my artist has to offer! This year is going to be better than last year!

I have been working in the music industry for many years, I have an amazing network of people who have helped me get to where I am today and where I want to go. The hardest part is making name for myself outside of my former venue I use to manage and creating new relationships and partnerships.

I manage artist and I consult with indie/ self managed artist to help guide them to where they want to go next. What sets my company apart from the rest is that it is black woman own and led. Everyone on my team are black woman or a woman of color. There is a need for more black women and women of color in the music industry and I have made it my goal to bridge the gap. I want other young black girls to see themselves and know that they can be in this industry too without having to compromise, or make themselves small. I also want to provide an environment in which women feel safe and can thrive professionally.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a foodie so we will mostly eat the entire time!

I would love to shout out my artist that I manage. His name is VNIS! He is an emerging alternative R&B out of Atlanta. He is currently working on a new singles slated to drop this summer!
