We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Joy Osborne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carrie Joy, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance is something I really value in my life. My work life balance recently changed dramatically as I welcomed my daughter, Eliana, into our family in the second half of 2019. While having my daughter is definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done, I’ve been amazed by the strength and growth I’ve seen from the experience of motherhood spill over into the business side of my life as well. I found a renewed sense of passion and purpose in my work that helped kickstart this newest chapter in my business. I aim to live in the sweet spot between running my business and serving my clients well while also making memories and spending quality time with my daughter and family. In this season, I’ve found that I’m a lot more intentional in what I say “Yes” to and in how I spend my time, which is such a wonderful benefit! Entrepreneurship and motherhood is something I’m really passionate about and it’s been such a joy encouraging other creatives and entrepreneurs to embrace both sides and know that they can thrive as both a Mama and a business owner.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love how my art can change and evolve as I grow as a person. My love of learning is something that’s always set me a part. This past year, while strange, has been a wonderful opportunity to learn from some of the amazing artists and photographers that I look up to. While so much of my growth has happened slowly over the years I’ve been in this industry, I’ve found a new facet of expression from the confidence I’ve found in becoming a Mom in the last year and a half. The challenges, perspective and love I’ve found help shape the way I see and how I capture the details and stories of my sweet couples and their families. I also believe that the disruption in the wedding industry with the pandemic has made me all the more thankful and excited for the work that I have been able to do and all that is to come. In short, hard times help shape us and make us grateful for all the good in our lives. I’m amazed by the resilience of the human spirit.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In my humble opinion, no trip to Atlanta is complete without a stop at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Especially now that it’s starting to warm up, I’d spend some time walking the gardens while sipping a cocktail from Longleaf. After that, I’d stop in my favorite pizza spot – Varuni Napoli. Around the corner from the Gardens, this little gem feels like being back in Italy and I love saying Ciao to Chef Luca before eating my fill of Neapolitan pizza. I’d also take some time to walk through the High museum. Studying the art masters always inspires me and makes for a fun day with friends. If the weather was nice, I’d also enjoy a walk or bike on the Beltline followed by more food and drinks at a few of my favorite Inman Park spots – Barcelona, Bread and Butterfly (for my French fix) and Bar Taco for margaritas and tacos on the patio! We might finish the week by doing a day trip to nearby Serenbe or the north Georgia mountains.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Community is incredibly important to me and has been so beneficial in my growth as a photographer and artist. There have been so many amazing creatives that have helped support and encourage me, especially through the challenges of the past year. I’m truly thankful, and I couldn’t let the opportunity pass to specifically thank my dear friend (and fellow photographer) Callie Beale. She’s been one of my biggest cheerleaders and has taught me so much over the years!
