We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela West-Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As an employee, small business owner, wife and mother, my meaning of work life balance has changed drastically since the pandemic. I have learned to pivot, adjust and flow in order to grow through the ever-evolving meaning of balance or “harmony” in my life. I have learned to level up my moments of self-care daily, in order to maintain peace and harmony within through prayer, faith, leaning on Jesus and connecting within.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
ARWBrown Educational Coaching Services, LLC is designed to empower parents of children with intellectual disabilities with resources, tips and strategies to master the IEP transition process. Future planning through education and coaching, is the key to the future success of special needs families. My goal is to first plant the seed of possibility and help them grow in the minds of moms, dads, and caregivers around the world. All of this started with a little book titled, “lost & Found” where I share my story. My sister has Intellectual disabilities. My grandmother raised us and did the best she could with the knowledge she had. I didn’t know who my ideal client was or where to start, I just knew I didn’t want other families to suffer because of lack of knowledge and access to resources. I began my journey and it led me to the IEP process. I then learned the most crucial time of the IEP process was the transition planning phase. I then decided to become what I wished my family had all those years ago. What I do is innovative, new and strategic. How so you may ask? I am able to coach you from both sides of the table. I know how it feels to be a sibling of someone with special needs and I know what it takes to process services for families in need at a State level. I am invested and I want to see your child win!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start out with brunch at First Watch to enjoy some great mimosas and Omelets. Then we would head over to Skyview Atlanta to enjoy the city and enjoy the view. Later that night we would go to the Apache for some live music and poetry. We would then check-in to Homewood Suites by Hilton Atlanta Midtown for the gorgeous nightline city view and sip wine on the balcony. The next day, I would then take them to Little Five points and eat Savage pizza, visit Sevannada’s for our picnic in the park the next day, shop around Junkman’s daughter, pet the kittens, and shop around each boutique. We would then catch a play at Horizon’s theatre. The Next day we would visit Piedmont Park, Centennial Park and Chastain park. We’d do some Park Hopping with a basket of wine, cheese and goodies. The next day we would dance, dance, dance visiting Thrive, Sutra, and Tongue & groove, etc. The next night would be a Laidback and sexy kinda night at “Sky Lounge” we would then spend the rest of the week relaxing at Je Ju Sauna & Spa.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom passed away a day after my birthday this past December. Growing up as a child, my mom and I did not have a close relationship. My grandmother raised me and filled in the gaps my mother could not. However, the months, days, weeks and moments leading up to her last moments, she taught me so much. She helped me to evolve spiritually and emotionally more than ever before. We were able to heal, grow and move to a place of compassion and understanding. My shoutout goes to my mother. A beautiful light, full of energy and love!! My Cheerleader!!
