We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Payton-Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiny, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m originally from Detroit Michigan. I always say anyone from the Detroit
has a hustle that’s is just different. It’s not a easy place and you have to be ready for
anything the city brings you at any given time. I feel that aspect of being ready for whatever, with the help of God has given me the ability to make a way out of no way. I also consider myself a gypsy in the sense that I’ve lived everywhere from Huntsville Al, Atlanta, LA, San Francisco and Nashville. Yet Atlanta is home for me as I lived there the longest and it has always felt like home even visiting my family there as a little girl.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MaDonni Beauty is my first brick and mortar business and the First African American owned beauty supply & salon suites in Huntsville, AL. I am most proud of being the pioneer for others to own a beauty supply in their own community. I am where I am in business by the grace of God and his favor, coupled with strong business acumen and smart work (not just hard work)! It was not easy as I worked my corporate job, funded my business and initially ran it from another state. I left my corporate career, moved to Huntsville and opened my doors to only have 3 weeks before Covid hit. I was 6 months pregnant at the time, newly married and building a house. So to say I had to pivot, be innovative and stay sane is an understatement. The lessons I’ve learned is that be patient with yourself, lean on God and his promise as it never fails, and stay the course. One thing I want the world to know about my brand is that I am beauty boss and quality is a necessity. As a mogul in the making, a positive, strong mindset is my specialty when it comes to staying on the grind and not looking like what you’re going through. My path hasn’t been easy but as God continues to orchestrate my testimony I hope to inspire and help as many people I can.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m such a gypsy when it comes to moving around. Yet between my hometown Detroit, Atlanta the place I lived the longest and call home and now Huntsville AL. I’d say in Detroit has to be downtown as the city really put some Luv into building it back up. Atlanta…it’s so
Many places to name Del Frisco’s, Aria, STK, Four Seasons for drinks, Cascade Skating for real A town fun, Phipps Plaza for shopping and a nice lounge somewhere. In Huntsville if
Have to Bridgestreet which is a one stop
Shop for drinks, shopping and entertainment and of course Jell’s 4 Ever for Ever for good BBQ.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God is always the first one to receive all my praise. Now to list an individual I’d have to say my life coach who has become Family, Tonnia Sellers. The one person who can write my book would her for sure. As far as books there are so many but to share a few I’d have to say The Alchemist, Take the Stairs, The Law of Divine Compensation and lastly my God mother got me into reading early and the one that sparked my love for books was Having Our Say”, by the Delany Sisters.
