We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Beal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
What makes me happy is contributing to the health and wellness of my community. I’ve always been passionate about healthcare and community service because I genuinely enjoy helping people feel good. While in pharmacy school at The University of Georgia I held service positions on both the local and national level. In these roles I was able to establish a mentoring program, participate in health fairs, coordinate a national conference event and more. After graduation I created my own organization, Minority Health Connection, to connect young healthcare professionals in Atlanta through networking and service events. Since the formation I’ve been able to organize free health screenings, education, and career events for the youth. I currently work as a Pharmacist Consultant for a major PBM and and I also work as a consultant for Beautycounter- the leader in safer makeup and skincare. All of these opportunities support my passion for helping people physically, mentally, and emotionally improve.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I currently work as a Pharmacist Consultant for a major Pharmacy Benefit Manager. In this role, I primarily speak with Medicare members and clinical staff about medications, gaps in therapy, cost savings opportunities and more. I’m also a consultant for Beautycounter- the leader in safer makeup and skincare. I love introducing people to cleaner alternatives with beautiful products made safe. Lastly I’m the creator of Minority Health Connection (MHC)- an organization for young healthcare professionals to connect through community service. Events have been on hold due to the pandemic but I look forward to getting started again soon. The tagline for MHC is “Service. Healthcare. Community” and represents what I want the world to know about me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area we would brunch at Sun In My Belly, Poor Calvin’s and Murphy’s. We would check out Atlanta Botanical Garden and maybe have a picnic in Piedmont Park. We’d visit the Beltline, Little 5 points and the High Museum of Art. We’d also do wine tasting at a local spot or Chateau Elan. For lunch and/or dinner we’d hit Slutty Vegan, South City Kitchen, Negril Village and Old Lady Gang. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
While I’ve always known I wanted to work in healthcare- my high school HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) teacher Mr. Elsey influenced my choice of career. When I was in 11th grade Mr. Elsey invited representatives to talk about the top 10 health positions and I was introduced to pharmacy for the first time. I listened intently to the speakers talk about Pharmacists and their role in patient care. Based on their presentation I felt like this was the perfect opportunity for me. Mr. Elsey continued to support my growth through class sessions, local HOSA meetings and competitions as well.
