We had the good fortune of connecting with James Hooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say that the most important factor behind my success is my drive and dedication towards my music. Continuing to pursue my career despite the dozens of setbacks I have experienced has not only provided me with numerous opportunities, but it has helped me to better develop my talent and grow as an artist/entrepreneur. Keeping myself motivated can be pretty difficult, but finding motivation in each of my achievements, whether big or small, definitely plays a huge role in keeping me going.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an R&B artist at heart, but I believe that my music has a one-of-a-kind sound. I am confident that this is what sets me apart from other artists and I am eager to prove it this year (2021). I am super excited about my upcoming album, expected to drop May 7th 2021. In this project, I will be introducing a new sound that is not at all similar to my alternative R&B vibe. Without giving too much away, the a lot of the album is very hip hop/rap driven, with my alternative R&B/pop flavors blended into the mix; it has a bit of everything. Despite the excitement and anticipation that I have towards this album, the journey has been a long one. What makes me the most proud is to be able to look back on everything I have ever done musically, from when I first started singing and was shy in front of literally everyone, and see how every moment and opportunity has led me to where I am now . It definitely wasn’t an easy journey, but I knew what I wanted to achieve when I first decided to pursue a career in music. I knew that if I wanted to be successful, I had to overcome my shyness and insecurities, and really put my faith and trust in God and work my hardest to develop my skills and increase my knowledge. My brand “Elevate” stems from the idea of “rising above/overcoming struggles and challenges”, and is a testament to a few of the struggles that I overcame in 2019. My brand encourages everyone to “elevate” above their struggles. I hope to encourage people to realize their potential and what they are capable of achieving if they are persistent towards their goals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my FAVORITE places to go in Atlanta is Ponce City market. Its definitely a cool spot to hang out and I typically just enjoy being downtown. Piedmont park is fun, but its a bit hard to say with COVID-19 around. Otherwise, I enjoy hanging out in Buckhead and midtown Atlanta. The Georgia aquarium is always a good time, as well as the World of Coke and Centennial Olympic Park. There are a NUMBER of incredible places to eat in the city. I don’t have any specific favorite spots, but its easy to find a lot of incredible food spots in Atlanta. A lot of what we’d do would probably involve something with music LOL.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
On team that deserves a LOT of recognition is my production team, OPN SZN. They are based in Atlanta and have produced the majority of my music videos. I also owe a lot of credit to Qurriculum Global, which is an independent label founded by Eddy Fuego that recognized my talent before it was even there. This was the first team that I had worked with that provided me with many opportunities to perform at multiple venues and record in elite studios in Atlanta. I also owe a huge shoutout to Mylow Miles, a local Atlanta artist and close friend who has played a major part in helping me manage my career as an artist. Also, shoutout to my best friend and fellow artist Josiah, who has had a positive influence on my music career and sound. There are a lot more people who deserve recognition, but these are a few that have had a defining impact on my career.
