We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Felton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are something that you have to take when running a business. One of two things are going to happen; you’re either going to win or lose. If you win, great! If you lose, apply what you learned and try again. To be truthfully honest, some of my greatest accomplishments have came from me just taking a chance!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a podcast host and content creator for theflogirls! Along with my podcast I run a merch store that sells soy candles and statement apparel. I think what I’m most proud of is that I actually did it. Sometimes we sit and say we’re going to do something but don’t actually start. I’m proud that I started and regardless what life has thrown at me I didn’t give up. It definitely was not easy! It still isn’t easy. What’s helped me overcome challenges is planning and giving myself grace. I’m not perfect and life happens! So whether I missed a week on releasing an episode or didn’t sell as many items I wanted in a time period I don’t beat myself up about it. I just keep going!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh this is a good question! I’m a true southern girl and so are my friends so the food would have to be on point. A few places I would take them to eat some good southern cuisine are Old Lady Gang, Flying Biscuit, South City Kitchen, Roc South and maybe hit Mary Macs also. At night we would dress up and head to Little Alley, Chops, or Le Colonial for a fine dining experience. My sis wants some good hookah? No problem, catch us at Divans or Pasha! It’s so many options. This answer could go on for forever so I’m stopping right here!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So one young woman I would say in particular that has helped me mentally and spiritually is Imani Cohen, also known as TheHoodHealer. I came across her during a time where I was dead- emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Through God, her advocacies, and my own strength I was able to get into alignment. A few books I recommend that helped me are The Power of Now and All About Love. Of course I have some great family members and friends that have also supported me along the way!
