We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Legion and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking a Risk is the most consistent ingredient in life as it is in business, it’s no way around it playing it safe is just another form of procrastination. My first risk was literally purchasing equipment when I had bills to pay couldn’t afford both but I believed in myself and to this day haven’t looked back. What ever risk you take leave regret behind you because there is no room for risk and regret in your mind. Push forward even if you fail learn from it because the next risk to take is right around the corner. Your definitely not ready to grow if you aren’t challenging yourself by taking the risk offered
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Director, DP, and content creator, honestly it’s my acceptance of all forms of art. I think we live in a society where ppl aim more for “dope” than artistic. Following so many artist from past to present while also keeping a look out for new styles, I’ve Incorporated it all into my own style I love dark shadows and vivid neon atomic lighting. But not every situation calls for such thing lol so I’m willing to make do with what I’m offered along side what I can pull off. The idea is if his watches our work I want to hear him say “y’all killed that”. Just making something outta nothing excitements me, we can go weeks or days taking about a project and watching it comes from our imagination into reality is the most amazing thing I’m offered right now In life. I got where I am today by never having a ego, always willing to learn and blend it into my professional journey while staying humble. Never being the person who complains about taking the back seat position so I worked with a lot of different directors plus creators while learning and it’s help me be apart of some pretty big projects in this city. It wasn’t easy dealing with certain clients, money issues ego’s, negative energy… but I never quit I take a road far as it takes me to reveal the next road on my journey and nether is easier than the last. It’s a guilty pleasure in being uncomfortable because you know in the end you will triumph to have the last last. Never allow someone to change the core of who you really are. That was my biggest lesson I learned, who I am makes me great. Trying to adapt while trying to be someone else is a dead end personally and professionally. Gotta run your own race set your own records, set the bat of your own greatness. Many ppl will come long saying there way is better but they are only baiting you to race their race. Never go for that instead make them run your track, make them push the bat in your world. No matter what happens the world should know I’m hear to create at every single level I’m offered in humble and passionate about creating visuals I want to leave something for the world to love even when I’m gone
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a big kid so I would have to say Andretti’s, six flags over GA, high art museum, i would definitely eat American deli cause so many of my friends never heard of it. Only club I would head to is Opium, soul food a restaurant on the east side.
