We had the good fortune of connecting with Catalina Gomez-Beuth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Catalina, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Being able to spend time with my family and being able to see my kids grow. Felling their support to pursue my career as an artist and to find in them the inspiration for my work fills me with happiness.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My goal as an artist is to celebrate how our differences make our life richer, and to acknowledge — and celebrate — how in these differences we are so alike. Through my Art I narrate, with brush strokes in people’s faces, each person’s individuality, avoiding the boundaries created by skin color and ethnicity. This is why all my characters are expressed in various shades of gray. By emphasizing the gestures of the subject surrounded by vibrant colors, I invite the viewer to start a conversation and connect with something deeper to discover the humanity we all share and to feel the raw emotions such as innocence, hopelessness, loneliness, resilience, happiness, determination and more that I portrayed in each canvas.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place we would go would be the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu mandir in Lilburn. This is a place were I feel a special energy and everyone is welcome with open arms. The architecture is a piece of art. Next, we will go and eat at Colette French Bakery, a charming coffee shop in Alpharetta. This place is full of delicious french pastry’s. Later, we will visit the Civil Right’s Museum to give my friend an insiders look at Georgia history. Finally, we would end the trip dancing and eating tapas in Eclipse De Luna. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank the Latin-American art group Contrapunto for all the effort they have put in to promoting the Latin art in our community. I would also like to thank artist Larry Smith for all the inspiration and encouragement that he gave me at the beginning of my career.
