We had the good fortune of connecting with CJ Williams Aka BLU and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CJ Williams aka BLU, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from both New Jersey and New York (I grew up and attended school in both states). Was raised around great family connections and love. The community, the porch, the park were all essential elements of growing up. Music, sports, fashion, church and good food were all apart of the journey. Throughout my journey I have been in different places around different people and my background has prepared me to be who I am today. My love for family, authenticity, life and continuing the legacy of all of my grandparents inspires me to strive to the best version of myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am well-trained actor, dancer, singer and songwriter. I have had a love affair with music since I was a youngin. I currently have writing and performing on a couple of projects and have been able to collaborate with great artists/producers. I currently have an EP out entitled “THE BLU TAPE”. I am most proud at how focused I was on completing my EP. Once my mind was made up, within a couple of weeks it was recorded, mixed and ready to be shared with DSP’s. I was extremely satisfied with projects. The challenge for me is overcoming writer’s block or expressing a melody that resonates with my ear and my soul. I’ve learned that you have to be confident and do what you feel in your heart. Not everyone will understand the sound or the message but there is someone out there who is waiting to hear my music! Never give up and believe that will the right focus, determination and energy the dream will materialize!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Eat: Fellini’s Pizza, OSHA Thai, J.R. Crickets, Bankhead Seafood
Drink: Holiday Bar, Trap City Cafe, Octopus Kitchen
Visit/Hangout:: Trap Music Museum, Underground ATL, Edgewood Avenue, Rocksteady

Trap Music Museum is a premiere destination from people all over the world so it’s first on my list. I really don’t go out much because the museum provides the same vibes that I can get at a lounge or club without it being too crowded and without the risk of people acting a fool!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to dedicate my shoutout to my my mother Elianah. Without her I would not have had the opportunity to land my favorite job in the whole world, at the one and only TRAP MUSIC MUSEUM. She was the one who first put me out there and saw to it that I made the right connections. Also, have to shoutout ATLANTATANA (Montana Brown) who gave me shot, co-signed my ability and introduced me to a great work team that I now call family. These two individuals have been the most instrumental in how my life in ATL has progressed.
