We had the good fortune of connecting with Chef Grubb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chef, why did you pursue a creative career?
I honestly thing that artistic/creative career chose me lol. Fun fact about me my last name is really Grubb. When I started this business that God blessed me with, it honestly wasn’t my passion. I just started doing it bc a post went viral of my Rasta pasta on twitter with 1.5 million views. After the viral post that’s when the floodgates opened and God sent the strangers to support. And it was up from there. I grew a passion for the business and when ppl ask me is my name Chef Grubb just a gimmick, it’s really not! It’s my birth name. It was written so I’m just doing what the Lord blessed me to do, this is my gift

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am chef who specializes in Jamaican food but not limited to. What sets me apart from the rest is not only do I cook an array of different dishes I also fuse the American culture into my food. So my food has a twist to it. It’s a home style flavor with an island twist as I’d like to put it. I was a nurse prior to this and the transition wasn’t easy bc I surely resisted the change. Everything I said I wasn’t going to do, the Lord sure made me do it, lol. Anything that challenged me prayer went into it and I rely on a scripture Roman’s 8:28 to get me through tough times and in the end, IT ALWAYS WORKED OUT. Lessons I’ve learned along the way is separating business from personal and making sure deposits are paid no matter what before starting the work!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I like to frequent a lot of Caribbean events so I would take them to those lively events since my West Indian ppl know how to give it up! I’ve been in Atlanta for 12 years and I really can’t say I’ve experienced much of what it has to offer so I guess we would be experiencing new ventures out here together!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my daughter Kymora. In this business she has held me down and been my right hand from day one. Riding with me when I started selling plates, my sous chef. Without her there was days even when I thought it wasn’t possible or panicked she stepped in and supported me. I want to thank her for that. She truly is my blessing
