Meet Rachel Blanding | Midwife, Life Coach, Podcast Host, and Women’s Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Blanding and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel Blanding, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“The trouble is you think you have time.”
I love this quote because it about sums up all the reasons why we don’t give urgency to the things we want to do, character traits we want to develop, positive habits we want to adopt, and relationships we want to strengthen. When we realize that we are on this Earth for a very finite period of time, and tomorrow is not promised, we start to treat life as the gift it really is.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have two businesses- my midwifery business at www.birthingway.com and my health and wellness business, www.reconnectedtolife.com, where I offer life coaching services and host The Self-Centered Woman Podcast. Both businesses compliment one another nicely, Our self-care in pregnancy is essential to healthy prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods. Likewise, beyond our childbearing years and into menopause, our health and wellness is essential to longevity. Has it been easy? Of course not. I think the number one reason people don’t get to where they want to be is because there is some illusion that if it’s meant to be it will be easy. I heard someone say once quite the opposite that, “Sometimes God makes it difficult in order to see how badly we want it. “ I like that as a reminder that when things get tough, we can get tougher. But we have to be healthy first- body, mind, and spirit.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lolol, I have a very best friend who lives in Las Vegas, where I went to high school and college. If she were visiting I know exactly what we would do and where we would go. The only sites we would need to see is each other. We would hole ourselves up in a cabin somewhere and spend the weekend playing dominoes and laughing until it hurts. It truly is the best medicine.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hands down, the reason I am able to show up for women in the most authentic way is because I have been raised up by some amazing women. My Granny sheltered me from storms no child should experience, my Aunt took me in and loved me as her own, affording me experiences that still serve my practices today. My Sister-in-law turned me on to home birth and the midwife who helped me with the births of 3 of my 6 children was the same midwife who trained me. My mother-in-law taught me the importance of discovering who I was and what I wanted for my own life, separate from the roles I play as mother to six children. My next mother-in-law teaches me everyday about struggle, and endurance, and faith in spite of the storms, and every woman on my podcast reminds me that when we are Self-Centered, by attention to our own brain’s fundamental health, we can do great things for ourselves and our community.
