We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggie Wegner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maggie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking a risk can be a really positive thing. You never know what the result will be and that’s the scary part. The biggest risk I took in my social/ career life led to me getting my first salary job and hired before I even graduated college. I did a controversial photoshoot that got me noticed by my boss and began my career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My main focus in all the artwork I do is to drive conversation and discourse in the pieces I create. The piece I was the most excited about is called, “The Duality of Woman” It is about the fact that you can express yourself In both masculine and feminine ways, but you cannot change your biological sex. The piece focused on the story of Chloe Cole, a de-transitioner who transitioned at 15 attempting to become a male. Doctors removed her breasts and put her on cross-sex hormones. She was lied to and taken advantage of by the medical industry. I think what sets me apart from other artist is my willingness to express the truth in all that I do even when it is not popular. I believe I got to where I am today in my professional career from God blessing my career, family support, and hard work. It hasn’t been easy with the backlash I have faced, but it has been worth everything. I overcome the challenges by knowing what God says about me is the truth, not random people on the internet who don’t know my heart. The lessons I have learned along the way are always stand on your values, be kind to everyone, but consistent in the truth, and to never stop pursuing your dreams even when it feels impossible. I want the world to know that every good thing in my life has come from God and that is the true meaning of success, knowing that I have God next to me no matter where I am at.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Nashville, I would take them to Troll House Cottage which is a tea place in Nashville that has the best tea and sandwiches. I would walk them around the city and grab lunch at 8th and roast and grab coffees and sandwhiches! Then we would spend most of the time thrifting near smart thrift or music city thrift and playing cards! I think something really fun to do in Nashville is just to walk around and enjoy the city or go to the farmers market or a concert at Bridgestone Arena!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank XX-XY Athletics, the first Athletic brand to stand up for women’s sports for taking a chance on a college student and allowing me to share my creativity and love for truth with them!
