We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Badillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Back in 2009, right after the recession, I found myself in a challenging situation. I was searching for ways to make money online to try and save my home from foreclosure. During that search, I discovered digital marketing — and I fell in love with it. Although I ultimately lost my home, that moment became a turning point for me. It sparked my decision to start something new, and I saw an opportunity to build a business in the digital space. What began as a necessity transformed into a passion, and that passion drove me to create and grow my own business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an Etsy Coach, and my mission is to help Etsy sellers start, manage, and scale their businesses into a full-time income. What sets me apart from other coaches is my 15 years of experience in the digital space, my deep passion for digital marketing, and my commitment to helping people turn their passions into profits.
My journey started back in 2007 during the last recession. I was desperately searching for ways to make money online to save my home. At that time, resources were limited, and despite my efforts, I lost my home and eventually filed for bankruptcy. It was one of the hardest periods of my life. However, during that struggle, I discovered my love for the digital space.
The road to where I am today was anything but easy. I held a full-time job while pursuing both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. My determination was clear: if I couldn’t make money online, my backup plan was to work for an advertising agency specializing in digital marketing. That’s how committed I was to this path.
I’m incredibly proud of my perseverance and refusal to give up, even after countless failures. The challenges I faced taught me that adversity holds valuable insights, that hard work truly pays off, and that persistence is key.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is this: I’m not someone with extraordinary advantages — I’m just someone who decided to do whatever it takes to make her dreams a reality. My goal is to leave a legacy for my son, showing him that anything is possible when you’re determined and willing to put in the effort.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d make sure they experienced the best that my area has to offer! Here’s the perfect itinerary for an unforgettable visit:
Day 1: Southern Comfort at OK Café
We’d kick things off with a meal at OK Café, known for serving some of the best Southern comfort food around. Think fried chicken, collard greens, and buttery biscuits — it’s the ultimate way to start the trip.
Day 2: Serenity at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit
Next, we’d visit the Monastery of the Holy Spirit. It’s such a peaceful, beautiful place with tranquil walking trails and stunning architecture. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and take in the serenity of nature.
Day 3: Exploring Downtown Conyers and Authentic Mexican Cuisine
Since I live in Conyers, we’d spend a day exploring Downtown Conyers. The historic charm is unbeatable! We’d make a must-stop at Seis Hermanas, my second favorite restaurant, for the best authentic Mexican food — their tacos and enchiladas are unforgettable.
Day 4: Sweet Treats at Yogurt Mountain
For a fun afternoon treat, we’d head to Yogurt Mountain. It’s the best place in town for frozen yogurt with endless toppings to satisfy any sweet tooth.
Day 5: Hiking at Stone Mountain
We’d take a morning trip to Stone Mountain for a quick workout. The hike up the mountain offers incredible scenery, and the view from the top is absolutely breathtaking. It’s a workout that rewards you with nature’s beauty!
Day 6: Brunch at Two Eggs
To refuel, we’d visit Two Eggs for brunch. They serve delicious, hearty brunch dishes — everything from fluffy pancakes to savory omelets. It’s the perfect way to spend a leisurely morning.
Day 7: Relax and Recap
On the last day, we’d relax, maybe revisit a favorite spot, and reflect on all the great food, beautiful places, and fun memories we created during the week.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my husband — back then, my boyfriend — Cornelius Camp. He has been an unwavering source of support for every wild dream and idea I’ve pursued, even when many of them didn’t work out. Cornelius has been my constant backbone, always there to listen, hold impromptu ‘staff meetings’ with me, comfort me when I’m overwhelmed, and push me forward when things get tough. He’s even taken extra shifts with our son and kept things running smoothly at home so I could dedicate more time to my business. His encouragement, patience, and belief in me have played a huge role in my journey, and I couldn’t have come this far without him.
