We had the good fortune of connecting with SAMURAE and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SAMURAE, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I love taking risks, they’re like life gifts. Once my mind is made up on something, it’s a done deal & if I’m given a risky opportunity I’ll take my time to see if it really resonates with me but most of the time it’s the right direction! Without taking risks I wouldn’t have experienced majority of the beautiful life memories, first times or literally every show I’ve ever done.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My existence sets me apart from others, there’s not another me and I’m very proud of that. Being an independent music artist feels like waking up in a new t.v. series every single day. Living in my own world, I write from my higher perspective rather than what’s popular, I love being different from the crowd. People overthink, feel unheard & unseen.. I want to remind them of their inner power, that’s how I got control of what was controlling me for so long in my life. Before the smoother times, they were tough but it only taught me what I needed to handle what’s ahead. The knowledge from the darkness becomes the light in songs or poems I write. Note from life – “When things get hard, that’s the easiest part because once you’re done, you’re done.” Until music is my full time job I have a regular 9-5 to support my lifestyle, it’s not optional for me. It’s a fun journey, I love what I do & get to help others along the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In my hometown Pittsburgh, PA there’s a little bit of everything for everyone. If you want a perfect view of it all I highly recommend going to the Mount Washington overlook, ride the incline to get up there for the full experience. For food, Shadyside has great spots like Fujiya Ramen where you can sit in comfort peacefully, eat good & drink if you like for decent prices. The best music bars to hang are Club Cafe on the Southside, The Winery or The Forge Urban Wine Bar in Homestead – catch some local talent! My favorite museum to visit is The Mattress Factory, they have anything but mattresses.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First thanks to God, never could have made it without. There’s a handful of people I’m grateful for that played a part in my story, they’re actively in my life and I couldn’t be more appreciative – I went through a lot on my own so to have them riding with me means everything. Even a few people who aren’t active in my life anymore, I’m still grateful for whatever experience the time held with them. Not sure I should drop names out of respect, they know who they are.
