We had the good fortune of connecting with Gail Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gail, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Following the completion of my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the late 1980s, I felt a profound guidance from a higher source guiding me to embrace and have faith in my innate spiritual gifts of healing and psychic intuition to serve others. This calling prompted years of dedicated study in mediumship, culminating in the attainment of various credentials, certifications, and ultimately, ordination as a Spiritualist Minister under the guidance of spirit.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My spiritual gifts were activated when I was very young as a child through dreams and hearing loved ones in the world of spirit who had passed on. I was very young like 5 or 6 and I did not discern that they had passed onto the other side. To me they were still with us in the present because I could see them physically and touch them.. I receiving spirit communication from my grandmother and many other teachers in the spirit world who were helping me and assisting me. I would also be guided by them with school when I was having difficulties in learning. I also was very drawn to animals and healing because my desire was to be a veterinarian but I discovered that I could hold them in my hands telling them it was OK and I was sending love and healing to them and they got better.
One thing that helped my love for healing was going to the nursing home with my neighbor to visit her mother-in- law. I went every Sunday to help and I painted her nails and read out loud to her. This brought other elders over to where I was reading out loud to Hortense and they just wanted to have some love and attention at the nursing home because not many children at the age of 7/8 where hanging out there. I loved going every week and making friends, extra grand parents and making them happy. They helped me to not be afraid of reading out loud, and we would hold hands in a circle and sing songs and you could feel the healing going all around us. This was another turning point when I was little that began my foundation of healing and bringing comfort to everyone.
I started doing readings when I was 17 for friends and family. People who had questions I just told them what I received and it was correct which helped them to move forward in their lives. It wasn’t till I was in my 20s when I went to camp Chesterfield for seminary school and learned all about physical and mental mediumship and how to have more control over communicating with loved ones who are on the other side.
After graduating from college with a BFA and Fine Arts I found that it was difficult to find a job so I started doing readings to help me financially while I was still waiting tables. I decided to quit waiting tables and do my readings and healings full time while I was studying. In 5 years of seminary I was ordained in 1997 in April and I had all my papers as a full spiritualist minister, certified psychic medium and healer.
I was lucky to have had faith in myself and be blessed to achieve my spiritual calling, but it was not an easy road. Being a psychic medium in the southern states was not a ‘real job’ according to society. My business’s growth relied entirely on referrals from satisfied customers who shared their positive experiences with others, highlighting the value I had provided. Over coming the challenges in building my clientele patience was a my greatest reward. Always being of positive in mind and helping others confirmed my gifts. Believing in affirmations and meditation to focus on a higher power to help send people who would seek me out for healing, guidance and spiritual communication. I was daily reminded of the importance to keep focused on your spiritual goal to achieve clear communication and healing for those in need.

The most major life lesson was in April of 2000. I was up at Camp Chesterfield with my sister and a friend serving the church for the weekend. I was drawing spirit portraits of loved ones for the message part of the service. I would draw loved ones, spirit guides, etc in color or black and white, write a messages on the paper with the name of the loved one, then gift it to someone in the congregation. I was communicating with my guides and clairvoyant relaying the message about the portrait and then give it to their loved one to take home. I met by divine intervention a man from Canada who received a beautiful healing nun portrait. His friend was a doctor of dentistry, who came up to greet me afterwards. Because of this meeting, Dr. Dave as I nicknamed him invited me to Boston where I traded healing and private meditations to repair some of my dental problems. He was a great holistic healer and he could see my spiritual gifts. He introduced me to the Onset Spiritualist Church, in Onset Ma. which lead to other Spiritualist churches asking me to come and serve. He believed in my work and booked lots of patience who had suffered from cancer and various stages to me for healing. After nine months of traveling back in forth from Atlanta to Boston, flying or driving, I heard my calling loud and clear to move to New England. Spirit also sent messages through a certain song. Every where I was, Atlanta, or New England I would randomly hear the same song. This was a very old song, but spirit made sure I heard it. I was shopping at the Stop N Shop grocery store in Onset during a nor-eastern and hear the Bees Gees singing to me over the grocery store sound system ‘Feel I’m goin’ back to Massachusetts Something’s telling me I must go home.’ I heard this song every where I went it was a sign from my spirit guides to move.

‘Spirit Lead” me to packed up my car and head to my new home in Massachusetts living by the grace of God with a dear friend Sharon who took me in as I built my spiritual business. I did not have a job waiting for me there I was serving the spiritualist churches all over New England they started praying for me to move. The power of the prayers and the need of wanting me in New England was such a strong calling I did not refuse, I just let go and let God send me. Dr. Dave was still referring clients to me and I found that ‘soul healing’ was my calling for New England. Spirit kept leading people to me helping me with the transition of my move and including another dear friend Franny, who shared her office with me so that I could do spiritual healings. Everyone who booked a healing with me started with a soul healing. This session covered it all, past, physical, emotional, mental, financial, relationships, etc to release and cleanse the body totally. When I would help them write their list to let go, invoking spirit to surround us and help to banish the negative issues and send in the healing. Everyone that I touched with this type of healing, their lives changed that day. I surrender myself to my healing staff who transcended the radiant light through me into my client on the healing table. This was the type of healing spirit told me to use to help the terminal and cancer patients. I knew that this soul healing would help everyone for their various issues, because I was the first to give myself this intense session in 1992.

Everything in Massachusetts was spiritually revealed to me or I was led by spirit to move there to share my gifts and to help people in New England through healings, serving the churches, teaching classes on meditation, officiating weddings, memorials, funerals, animal healings and private readings for clients. While I was living in Massachusetts only about three years after being there the Standard Times newspaper in New Bedford, MA asked me to do a prediction for the Super bowl between the New England Patriots in the North Carolina Panthers. This was a very great achievement for my connection with my spirit guide doctor Bigelow who is my teacher in the spirit world that works with me one-on-one with my clients and for all the predictions that I did while I lived in New England. He helped me to see two weeks in advance the Super bowl and to write down verbatim what happened the coin toss, who received the scores at the first quarter, the second quarter, the third quarter and the fourth quarter then the final score. Doctor Bigelow helped predict the final score within one point New England Patriots 32 Carolina Panthers 29 the article states the entire reading and everybody in New England contacted me for sessions after the prediction came true. That was in 2004 then they contacted me the same year to help their Boston Red Sox ‘Reverse the Curse.’ I meditated 3 weeks on the games that I had to predict for the whole month and the article stated the ALCS the ALDS and the World Series. This drew attention to the news media and television and interviews of my gifts and this was one of my greatest achievements through spirit communication with doctor Bigelow and to connect my gift with all of those wonderful supportive sports fans in New England to believe in my work and my gifts of spirit.

With the notoriety of the predictions that continued after 2004,2005, 2007 etc. I was still continuing to do private readings, group events and healings. Many of my clients that came to me who were terminal or had incurable illnesses received healings from me and my spirit guides. Their results were incredible of how their bodies accepted the soul healing and laying of hands . Many of them did not have to continue with their medications and their illness either went dormant or completely healed and left their bodies. I’ve had the opportunity to help people heal from various illnesses such as Veds, ALS, lupus, all types of cancer, Sjogenren’s Syndrome, MS to name a few.

Some of my specialty gifts of spirit are healing, clairvoyance, clairaudience clairsentience, trance or channeling and spiritual healing. With my background in art I also have the gift of spirit art and drawing portraits of loved ones who’ve passed on and giving those portraits to the client or the recipient from their loved one. There is also another gift called flame messages where I use an index card and a tapered candle and as I’m giving a message from a loved one they’re actually burning a smoked image on the index card of their face or a symbol or sign for their loved one to take home with them as a gift from them. I love being able to serve spirit and use every form of my mediumship to help other people in their lives and to help educate them to understand the gifts of spirit.

My business which started in 1989 was completely built solely on referrals. A business card and a brochure which I made myself on the computer back in the day. There was no social media or internet to help you build a business, You had to do cold calling and you also had to explain about your gift to those people who were accepting of it. Believing in yourself and serving spirit is a very humble process in building a business with the gifts of mediumship. Handing out your business card when people ask what you did for a living wasn’t always accepted until finally you got that one person who was in need for your special services as a medium. I found that I had to share who I was and how I can help them for them to be open and receptive to come for a session with me for a lot of people did not have the education or understanding of how spirit worked and how we as mediums receive the messages to help them.
Building my business was not easy because as a medium and having the help from my spirit guides I only spoke the truth and the information that I was receiving from my guides and or the impressions I was getting from my tarot cards. I never told a client what they wanted to hear I only told them the truth which you find that a lot of people want you to validate something they want in their life but that is not what the medium is receiving from spirit because they have work to do for that validation to come true.

The foundation of my practice was laid by those whom I assisted, providing them with the guidance or healing they sought. Their satisfaction fueled the growth of my clientele and garnered referrals, even from prominent companies seeking my services for events. Over the years, my business flourished as I remained committed to honesty and unwavering in embracing my innate spiritual abilities, irrespective of public opinion. I stayed steadfast in honoring the gifts bestowed upon me by a higher power.

The lessons that I’ve learned over the many years is change is inevitable and you have to move with the energy and the vibration wherever you’re living. You have to understand and be open and receptive to the people no matter what state you live in or what country they live in you serve to the best and highest for spirit and for them.

Since relocating to Savannah, Georgia, I’ve observed a transformation in my professional endeavors. My focus has shifted towards specialized services including readings, Bachelorette parties, private and corporate events, healings, hospice care, wedding officiant, and memorial services. To expand my reach and brand, I ventured into music production, releasing my own album/CD titled “Harmonious Healings” in 2003. Playing all the instruments myself, I incorporated meditative tracks aimed at facilitating self-healing and fostering a deeper understanding of spiritual guides and teachers.

Moreover, in the past 17 months, I launched a podcast titled “Mediums with a Message” on Spotify. Through this platform, I share spiritual insights, education, and anecdotes of mediumship, aiming to demystify the subject and encourage exploration of one’s spiritual gifts. This venture has proven to be an effective means of connecting with a global audience and contributing to the healing process through mediumship.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When people would come to visit me no matter where I lived whether it was New England or the South, I always knew great places to take them and share with them the sights, the sound, the food the fun and spirit. When I lived in Fall River MA, I loved taking my friends to have lobster at Mike’s restaurant in Fairhaven, and take them to the Cape, Martha’s Vineyard and to Newport RI and see all the beautiful mansions and homes. It was always a must to go whale watching to see the humpback whales off Barnstable Massachusetts. I always had different tours to take my friends on especially a ghost tour whether it was Boston, Newport RI, Plymouth MA, or Salem MA Experiencing a historical ghost tour help them to understand the vibration of spirit and to learn the incredible stories of how people lived and the wonders of spirit communication in that town. Depending what time of year we would go to some sporting event in Boston or Providence. For a finale we would attend a sound healing group with gongs and crystal bowls to reground with nature and to connect with spirit.

Here in my new town a Savannah GA a seaport city founded by James Oglethorpe and the First Capital of Georgia there’s endless possibilities to take my friends around one of the most beautiful historical haunted cities in the United States. I would take them on different tours of the city whether it was to tour the prohibition museum, trolley tour, or a ghost tour where they would learn all about the American Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the surrendering of Savannah to President Lincoln. If my friends were into architecture, we would definitely tour some of the famous homes by built by the architect of William Jay such as the Owen Thomas house, the Telfair Museum exquisite homes to tour and to see the sculptural work and craftsmanship. To dine on the cuisine in Savannah some of my favorite places are the Pirates House, the Ole Pink House, Mrs. Wilkes, Mc Clarys, Vic’s on the River, Sorry Charlies to name a few. Savannah is known for its speakeasys (underground pubs/bars) and rooftop bars that would be part of the visit in town to explore the sites and sounds of Savannah at night. A rooftop bar or down on river street watching the ships come into port sounding their horn as they come upriver to deliver the goods just like the ships in the late 1700’s when bringing goods and cotton to the exchange. A beautiful drive down to Tybee beach to walk the pier and look for sharks’ teeth and stop at Fort Pulaski National Park. And to top off their trip, if possible, to take them to a Savannah Banana’s baseball game for the experience of ‘Banana Ball’ and share in the Savannah Banana fans who sell out Grayson stadium to have family fun with the home team.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, especially my mom, who acknowledged that they had gifted children and helped us become our best selves. My sister Charlene for taking me to Camp Chesterfield in IN the year of 1987. At The Indianan Association of Spiritualists we both experienced all forms of mediumship mental and physical phenomena which inspired me and her to study there. Attending seminary at Camp Chesterfield, I developed in my spiritual gifts which became my live long mission of service to others. The teachers who supported me on my journey were Rev. Suzanne Greer who was my sponsor, Rev. Pat Kennedy, and many other incredible teachers. There were so many wonderful people with knowledge and experience of all the phases of mediumship and they demonstrated and helped me to be receptive to the gifts of the spirit.
