Meet Moses Jones: Actor / Speaker / Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Moses Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moses, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Working in the Entertainment Industry, one may feel like life is all about risks. We take risks when we audition, risks when we are filming.. Our career is based on us taking a character, and making it interesting enough that someone will want to watch it. To do that, we can’t be afraid to be embarrassed or rejected. The greater the risk, the greater the reward. But, I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention how bigger risks also have the potential for major let downs. I love the saying “Ask Forgiveness, not Permission”. I believe, in general, it’s better to be decisive with a bold risk rather than to choose a safer option. We as artists have to get used to being uncomfortable, because the minute we get comfortable is most likely when we will be replaced. So, risks play a major role in my career. 

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My Career is split into a three-way pie: Actor, Speaker, Filmmaker. As an actor, I have been blessed to work consistently across multiple platforms for a number of years. The best lesson I learned over time is feeling comfortable to take control of my career, and the choices that go along with that. In the beginning, I didn’t feel comfortable telling my agent ‘no’ to an audition, or even going to them when I had an issue with something. I didn’t feel comfortable taking risks on set, as I was afraid of doing something that the director might not like. I didn’t feel comfortable coaching other actors, because I would continue to tell myself “you haven’t built a big enough resume to coach someone else”, even though I had been heavily trained and had a ton of experience in what I was coaching on. And although I still believe I have a ton of learning to do, more details to learn regarding show-business, and ambitions of seeing my resume triple in the future, I can definitely say I am at a place where I have peace with understanding I am okay with not agreeing with everyone, and making decisions that may make others uncomfortable. That is the best piece of advice I could give to any actor; do what makes you comfortable, no matter what’s on your resume. Speaking has always been a must for me, because I remember being influenced by some of the presentations I attended as a teenager/young adult. I didn’t have a ton of men in my life growing up, but I was blessed for the men that came in for a season, and gave me nuggets that help mold me into the person I am today. I always knew I wanted to be to someone else what those speakers were to me. I was blessed to really see my Speaking career substantially take off in 2019. Throughout that year, I went on a School Tour in Indiana called “Sweet Deception”, where I informed young people about the harmful affects of vaping. I spoke to over 50,000 Middle and High Schoolers (that still puts me in awe to say that). Schools were bringing the entire student body into one assembly to hear my presentation; with crowds ranging from 150 – 1700! Because of my love for acting, I already thrive and get excited about being on stage, but knowing that I’m not just entertaining these young people, but educating and inspiring them as well.. that is definitely that definition of a dream come true. And still, I have so much more that I can’t wait to do in this space. Filmmaking is the the final piece of my career pie. Along with having a B.A. in Telecommunications for Film/TV, I have been able to produce a ton of independent work, as well as write and direct my own projects. I still have so much to learn here, as each project I work on seems to get bigger and more broad, helping me understand more and more about the business side behind the camera. But I get excited at the idea of creating art that I am proud of.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing I love about the State of Georgia is it is a melting pot of all walks of life. In the city of Atlanta alone, there are a TON of things for you to experience! My wife and I love to eat, so we are constantly wanting to try different restaurants, and Atlanta does not disappoint with the choices. I think its a MUST that you try out Slutty Vegan, as that has become a hit ever since they opened their doors. My favorite BBQ spot is called ATL Fusion. One of my favorite Soul Food restaurants is The Busy Bee, which is right in the heart of the AUC (Atlanta University Center – Morehouse, Spelman, Clark). Milk and Honey has THE best Shrimp ‘n’ Grits I’ve ever had in my LIFE!! I could go on and on about food. Lol As far as Adult entertainment, I am not a big Bar/Club/Lounge guy, but I do know they have a ton of spots that are known to be staples around the city (and pretty popular outside of the state as well). If your a hiker, you’ll enjoy hiking Stone Mountain, which has a gorgeous view once you get to the top. I’m not going to recommend the Zoo, as I was highly disappointed there. But the Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola are also fun attractions to go to. And if you’re down here during the football season, you have to experience the Falcons in the new, massive Mercedez Benz Stadium.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s definitely a ton of people I could list that have helped me get to where I’m at currently, but I’ll try and limit it to a few: First and foremost, my wife Jasmine. She has unequivocally been my biggest supporter since we moved to GA in 2010. She has always encouraged me to expand my talents into different areas, supported me when I needed to be away from home for awhile, and never complained about the countless times I’ve had to leave and she’d be left to maintain the house, kids, as well as her own career. So the peace of mind I get there is by far, the biggest contribution to my success. Next, would have to be my Mother-in-Law, Jocelyn. She is a flight attendant, and listed me on her profile so that I can fly wherever, whenever I need to. That alone has save me THOUSANDS of dollars, and allowed me to finally work in different markets like Los Angeles and New York. She too, along with my own mother Debra, would have to be my next biggest supporters and continue to encourage me to keep grinding as I continue my journey of ascension in the industry.
