We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Barbara, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The art business is just like any other. There are many elements to keep track of, and balance with actual art making. Learning how to find a comfortable flow takes time and patience.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m excited about the positive shift that my practice has taken this year, of all years. Five years into full-time studio commitment, sales have picked up enormously, and several significant opportunities have come my way. Since 2015 I’ve continued to show up in my studio even on days when I didn’t feel like it. Sometimes I wondered why I kept making art because my work wasn’t getting much attention. I now understand that it takes time and perseverance to create a body of work. The more you work the better you get. My brand straddles the nexus between Abstraction, Spirit and Ancestral Memory.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
