We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Quitting my full time and choosing entrepreneurship. Most times when I thought about being my own boss people would say save money for a contingency plan but it was so hard to save when I honestly was living check to check. One day I woke up went to the salon and made my two week pay check in one day and at that moment I made the most difficult decision to turn my side hustle into my full time. I went from 30k to well over six figures within a year.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Loctician. I maintain, install, and establish the Afro-centric hairstyle widely known as Locs or Dreads. My dedication and grind sets me apart from others. I live by this quote, “No grind, No glory.” In the beginning of my career I woke up and gave 1000% and still until this day I give the same plus more. The only limitation is the amount of dedication that you exhibit. My exceptional customer service skills and never giving up got me where I am today business wise. No it was not easy because a lot of things I didn’t know or had guidance but it was so beautiful because I never let anyone or anything defeat me.
Lessons I learned along the way:
1. Never give up. Keep striving for excellent.
2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
I want the world to know that every loticican/beautician isn’t the same but at It’s Knot Just Hair we create a luxury loc experience one head at a time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to Yami crab the have best seafood and drinks in town. If we are looking for a lounge I’d take them to Social Lounge or Cru they had good bar food, hookah, and an overall nice ambiance. One last place I’d take them would be Fresh Boutique its one of the dopest sneaker stores in town. On the last day we would go to Float Robins to do float therapy.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everybody but specifically my clients. Without them I wouldn’t have pushed myself to get my own salon a place we call home.
