We had the good fortune of connecting with Amelia B. Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amelia, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a business owner, everything around me is related to my work. My car, my home, my closet, and most importantly, my family. I am constantly working and my children are always present. I taught my first-born son about entrepreneurship and economics from an early age, and now he has started his own company and I assist him as his business expands. It makes me proud to see him create an elevator pitch and confidently ask for cash as his preferred payment method. I knew I had truly impacted him when he asked his younger brother, “What’s your business?”
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started creating drinks in 2010 with little to no training. I was to go to person for events and gatherings. In 2016, I got serious. I was working in my boring career and wanted to have FUN on my off time. I completed bartending school and started working as a freelance bartender. As a freelancer, I realized more people wanted Mocktails than cocktails, they wanted to-go options. I started making bottled mocktails to send home with people after events. In 2020, the world came to a standstill. Many people no longer book events for fear of COVID-19. So I decided to bring my bottled mocktails to My Milk and Money pop up shop. Being from Atlanta I was not fimular with the Conyers area, so I took a leap of faith and set up shop. Well, the community liked my drinks! In 2021, I started Mocktail parties to teach others the same skills I possess. The Mocktail/ Coktail parties are not the most successful part of my business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
On a typical night, we would start at Frozen Pizza Bar and make our way to an event at Costly Mills, followed by watching sports at Sudo Lounge.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout-out to my A1s. Nothing or no one can stand without a solid foundation. Before “Milli B Mixes”, there was “Queen Amelia” mixing things. During the pandemic, when small businesses were scared to go outside, “Milk and Money” provided a safe space for small business owners to flourish. I want to thank my family, my co-workers, my sistermoms, and the community for their support. And of course, a special shout-out to my man.
