We had the good fortune of connecting with Eugene Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eugene, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say the most important factors behind my success are lack of laziness, willpower, determination and education within my field. Laziness can kill anyone’s dream. Being lazy is why I think most people don’t accomplish their goals in life. Success is earned, not given. Something as simple as doing a small amount of work in the right direction can help anyone achieve success, but even a small amount of work is often too much work for most people.

Willpower and determination are what I believe are the main two factors that push my drive to be a winner not only in business but also at life. Both of these attributes help me stay focus and away from distraction while completing a goal. Lastly, my education in my field plays a major role in my success. Staying educated in the field in which you choose to pursue not only gives you an advantage over the masses, but it also gives more appreciation to your career field because you understand how everything works and how to do things the proper way. This is very important in the entertainment industry as lack of knowledge could ultimately be the reason someone does not succeed.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
As an artist, I think what separates me from the pack is versatility. I am able to seamlessly create in multiple genre’s, which allows me to connect a broader audience of people and interest throughout the world. Something I’m most proud about is being a part of the “Pep Rally With A Purpose Tour,” with Dujuan “Don P” Pullins, Music Exchange Radio and Kids Sports Center. This tour has a general assembly type setting for elementary, middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities across the USA. This tour helps me display my talent to multiple age groups and simultaneously provide a memorable experience for all. I can make a song that can make a baby dance and another to make a teenager dance and another to make an adult dance. I believe this is a God given talent, so I only take credit in taking time to perfect what was given to me.

The road to success and making money in the music business industry is not easy, but staying focus on your end goal is what helps me overcome the challenges that lie within. One thing I have learned along my journey is to always stay educated in all facets of the business side of music. It really can make or break a career. As an independent artist, and owner of a music publishing company, I can say the majority of my success has come from understanding how the music business works and playing by its rules.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever I am back home in Atlanta, one of the first stops for me is Atlanta Fish Market. That Sea bass and Salmon Entree is life! Another all-time favorite is Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint. You may even catch me at Big Daddy’s on Old National Hwy if I’m in the mood for some good soul food. For nightlife and entertainment… definitely Magic City lol. I also like to attend Hawks and Falcon and Atlanta United FC games whenever I am in town and they have a game.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Along my journey as a artist, songwriter and music executive, I have had help from various people and books. Shaunte’ Clarke, my former manager helped greatly during the start of my professional career. I would also like to shoutout the late Alexia “Lex Dirty” Spratling for always believing in my vision and providing assistance and guidance in my personal life and professional career. Lion Kemp and Nigerian Superstar D’banj also deserve a shoutout in helping me throughout the start of my career. Lastly, I would like to shoutout Sarah Orefice and Rylee Evans of The MSMJ Musi Company. Sarah is my current partner and President at The MSMJ Music Company and Lion City Management. Rylee Evans is my vocal arranger and co-writer. All these people have played major roles in making my dreams come true.

As far as books, I would recommend to anyone interested in the music business “All You Need T Know About The Music Business” By: Donald S. Passman. This book will help understand exactly how the business side of music works. I would also recommend “The 48 Laws of Power” By: Robert Green and “How To Win Friends And Influence People” By: Dale Carnegie to anyone seeking to advance themselves in any career.
