We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Paul Gross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Paul, what do you attribute your success to?
The goal has always been the same. I aim to be a pillar for health in the heart of Cabbagetown. I want people all over Atlanta to know me and to know Terminus. To know that there’s a place they can go to get better and be better. I want my office to be easy, smooth, and effective. I want people to know that I believe in them and their ability to heal and their ability to simply live healthy, enjoyable lives! I try to live that brand. I apply so much enthusiasm about wellness and overcoming challenges to myself as well as my patients. The body is always teaching us the same lessons over and over again. We are meant to be healthy and live well throughout our lives! Health is the normal state of affairs, not sickness! Our body has the ability to heal under the right circumstances, and every time we overcome a health challenge we get better and better at that kind of work. I believe in people and I love what I do because it reinforces my optimism to see my patients get healthier and live better lives every day.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Of course starting a business is a big risk, but one of the best things about being a small business owner is that it can be fun for all different types of people with vastly risk tolerance. Starting my practice at first wasn’t such a huge risk. I have an incredible support network in my wife (also a small business owner of the incomparable Thistle and Sprig Tea Company), my family, and a vast network of great friends and colleagues. The biggest risk I took was moving the office to Carroll Street in Cabbagetown. I was just barely over a year in practice and had a lean, bare-bones practice in Oakhurst. When I saw that my dream location – an old brick storefront on my absolute favorite block of my favorite street in one of the best neighborhoods in the city – was available, I immediately jumped at the opportunity. The lease was signed by the end of the week. It was a huge risk for me in some ways. My expenses more than doubled! I was just 30 and barely 2 years out of chiropractic school. But I knew it was worth the risk for what I believed I could build on Carroll Street. I also knew that the support system I had behind me and the personal and professional community that I was building would boost me up even when things got difficult. 4 years later it’s easy to just enjoy the success and forget how scary it was to take that kind of risk, but that’s what makes the office such an enjoyable place to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the strange silver linings of 2020 is that the safest and best places to hang out in and around the city are all outdoors now. As a triathlete who already loved being outdoors as much as possible, this is actually great for me. So my top places to show off are all in nature. I love the unpaved southside Beltline on a gravel bike, the South River and Arabia Mountain paved trails for runs and, the Dolls Head Trail for a scenic dog walk, and the Proctor Creek Greenway for some spectacular views. We have also been getting really into the Chattahoochee National Forest lately. Only 90 minutes from Atlanta and you can lose yourself trails, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, and mountains.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout has to go to my wife, Susannah Lee. Her company, Thistle and Sprig Tea Company, is really taking off and is such an inspiration to me. I could have never started my business completely on my own terms without her, and seeing her success breathes new life into me every day. She loves what she does and has such high expectations for quality and professionalism in her realm. That reminds me to live up to that standard and roots me in an appreciation for getting to follow my dreams and do exactly what I want every day.
