We had the good fortune of connecting with Woo Monáe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Woo, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
We all want to instantly see results anytime we start something new, and when we don’t see the results we want fast enough it’s easier for us to want to give up or push it to the side. Ask yourself why did you start? We tend to get so lost up in the world that we forget what made us want to do anything in the first place. How much progress did you make? I know that you’re probably not where you want to be just yet, but you’re definitely farther than where you started. For me I pray on it and about it when I feel like I am doing something and don’t know if I want to keep going or not. I also try to give everything a full year of me actually giving it my all before I decide to pull the plug on it. I just feel like if you don’t give it time you will never really know if you tried or if you went through a phase. We be expecting overnight results and that don’t be the case all the time. Sometimes you gotta put in many nights to get that one night that will change your life. That’s okay too. Might have the right idea but it could be wrong timing for you, starting is always better than never knowing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a model, a content creator, and the queen of side quests. I think that doing side quests really helps my career because it keeps me running into new people, finding new opportunities, and overall helps me expand as a brand in whole. It keeps me really versatile and on my toes. I’m able to learn so much and see so much by having a “major” and “minor” in niches. I know a little bit of something about everything I put my hand into, because I keep learning everyday even if it’s not something I wanna apply to my everyday life. Never know when it can come in handy I guess.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I said it once then I said it a million times. I love to do tourist things. No matter the city, how long I’ve lived there or even if it’s my home town. After we finish looking like tourist then I’ll take them to some of the city’s hidden gems. Hidden gems no matter the city are always fun. I love them so much. From traveling I’ve learned that the best foods come from what the locals go to. The places that they try to gate keep will be your best bet for food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love all the love that I’ve been getting. Right now it would be anybody with any positive words of encouragement or anybody that mentions me for opportunities they think I’ll be good for because they are following my journey and I came to mind. Me. Out of the 8 billion people in this world you thought of me because you see me trying, grinding, and putting myself out there. That alone makes me want to keep going. Shoutout to my brother too. He really tries to take so much off my plate and let me know that he believes in me and that means the world to me because I want to give him a better life.
