We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenny Smallhorn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenny, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Peach Pit Comedy’s motto is “good vibes and great comedy.” Since we are running a comedy show, the number one priority is good vibes! My hope is that the venue, comics, and (most importantly) the audience all leave with a feeling of satisfaction.

For this reason, I value respect and kindness. The world can always use more of these, and comedy is one avenue to foster good vibes. My favorite comedy is silly, light-hearted and goofy. To accomplish this, respect and kindness are necessary ingredients.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
While I personally write and perform daily, I have another side of my comedy journey that is more focused on production. In my six years of performing comedy, I have seen all the things that make a show work (or not work!). Since I have seen comedy shows from so many angles, I get excited at any show that is pulling all the essential elements together. I love to see audiences that are engaged. It makes me happy when a fellow comedian tells a great joke. There are so many ingredients that make a comedy performance flow. It is an exciting challenge to pull these elements together.

Oscar Wilde wrote, “Some things in life are too important to be taken seriously.” This is a lesson that I continue to learn throughout my comedy journey. Whenever I get in my head about a setback or failure, I remember the privilege and thrill of comedy. While I deeply care about putting on a good show, attaching too much weight to the occasion robs it of the fun it is trying to create. Joy is essential to our lives, which makes it too important to be taken seriously.

The most fun comedy shows always have an element of support. The venue, audience, and comic all must come together to make the space supportive of fun. This is a primary goal of Peach Pit: to be supportive and encouraging. For instance, our open mic at Tin Roof Cantina has been very successful at welcoming a wide variety of comics to join. Many people have decided to give stand-up a shot for the very first time at the open mic. These are the moments that make comedy such a treat!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve heard Oakland Cemetery is a pretty popular place…people are dying to get in there!

Of course, I would a visitor out to a comedy show! There are plenty of shows throughout the week to choose from at a variety of cool venues.

I live near Buford Highway, so we would spend time looking through the many restaurants in this area. It is exciting to drive down Buford Highway and see the restaurant options from countries all over the world! There are endless great spots to grab food from. Personally, I love White Windmill and Havana Sandwich Shop.

I also keep a running list of coffee shops in Atlanta! If my friend needed a pick-me-up, I could point them to the best coffee. My personal favorites are Coffee Bar Atlanta and San Francisco Coffee Roasting. These places have excellent coffee and beautiful, chill spaces. In fact, you might be lucky enough to catch a comedy show at Coffee Bar! 😉

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are truly too many hilarious and hardworking comics in Atlanta to name them individually. The Atlanta comedy scene is a blast to be a part of! There is an excellent network and community to support live comedy, so I would certainly shoutout all the businesses, comics, and people that come to shows that help support an exciting comedy scene.
