Meet Terrence Alexander | Photographer & Data Scientist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrence Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terrence, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is important, and I’m strong believer in prioritizing self-care over anything. Personally balance can look different to me depending on the day. This use to be hard for me to handle because I’m comfortable with routines, but managing a 9-5 and a business leaves little room for routine days. I go about work life balance by going with the flow. I typically meditate each morning to scan for what truly needs to be prioritize for the day and do my best to handle those task/items. I’m not successful all of the time, but I also practice a mindset of being kind to myself. The way I see it is that there is an entire world of people that can judge and berate me about not checking off task items. Why do it to myself?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a free lance photographer, and I have been shooting professional for about five years now. I have had the opportunity to photograph weddings, graduation portraits, baby showers, family portraits etc and I love them all. The feeling of capturing a moment pure of emotion somewhat freezes it in time to always remember and cherish. That is beauty and art in photography. I have progress this far in my photography business by continuing to work hard and learn from my mistakes. It was not easy because photography is centered around experience and with those experience. It is a challenge to continue to work at a something you are not perfect at doing. I did not let my early struggles of getting started hinder me. I wanted to cultivate this skill and align my artistic side. My brand regarding photography is simple. I want people to enjoy their experience with me. I try to make every session memorable to my clients in someway. I also take it serious. Again, I see photography as a way to freeze time so people can remember and cherish the moment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Piedmont Park, Atlantic Station, East Atlanta Village are some of my favorites spots to hangout. As far as food, we have to hit up Fins and Feathers, Two Urban Licks, and Mangoes. People in and around Atlanta is always interesting. The people here are lively and animated so meeting new people can always be an adventure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Diamond Alexander, my beautiful wife.
My best friends Zach Bobo, Adonis Hayes, Richard Hampton, and Phillip Jones.
