We had the good fortune of connecting with Fred Tian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fred, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
There are many important factors but I’d say the most important would be music knowledge. Having nice gear and equipment is all good but being a good DJ is still the foundation of my company. In the DJ world, there is a term called open-format DJing. An open-format DJ plays a variety of genres, rather just one. This versatility allows us to work a variety of types of events. A skilled open-format DJ can transition easily between pop, EDM, country, and hip hop, just to name a few genres. We pride ourselves on allowing clients to give as much or as little input on music for their event and then we build their event’s soundtrack accordingly.
What should our readers know about your business?
Owning a DJ company, or as I call it now, an event production company, is tough in a big city because there is a lot of competition. However, there is also plenty of work and also clients who seek a high caliber service. I’d say what separates Mixpro apart is
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d probably take them to the Atlanta Beltine and also Ponce City Market. West midtown has some cool spots as well. [Sorry, I don’t have the time to create a super detailed itinerary]
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like give a shoutout to the event planners that I often work closely with. Their referrals are the backbone of my business and I would not have the kind of success I have now without them. The best thing is they’ve often already hyped up my services to their clients so I often don’t even have to do a sales pitch! They also help educate their clients on the types of services we offer and the value it brings to their event. Their support definitely means a lot!
