We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharonda Moss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharonda, how do you think about risk?
In my opinion, taking a risk sometimes is needed for success. Living in fear can hinder your true potential and creativity jumping out there with no regrets is what I think plays a role in most entrepreneurial career growths. Even starting a skin care business with no help, no mentor or peers to plan and organize with when I first started to create products was a risk but it showed others and myself what I was capable of. Risk gives us lessons and sometimes may take us on a greater path for our future.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
KINOFSKIN Cosmetics, a Black-owned small business which originates in Washington , DC. The brand focuses on promoting healthy skin growth and boosting one’s confidence through their skin. All ingredients are natural and organic with everything being handmade and no team to help execute idea to real life. KINOFSKIN was created to make dry skin a more relatable thing so that people don’t have to feel insecure about having certain skin conditions. I think that’s what sets me apart from others. I completely think of everything from scratch. Beauty and cosmetics have been around for years so it’s a constant struggle to not blend in with the competition in my area and in the industry. so sometimes it’s not so easy to keep the confidence that I can break into the industry.
A few lessons I’ve learned through my business journey is to believe in yourself, always push yourself to do more and be better than yourself not the next. Stress is only temporary & most importantly keep your ideas to yourself (think plan & execute.)
Growing up adopted I didn’t have much self identity or confidence and reassurance in certain aspects of my life so I want the world to know that KINOFSKINCO is a brand built around love, passion and helping others see their own beauty.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in DC has it perks and fun. I’m not a party or going out type of girl I have my moments of fun but there’s tons of food options and bar spots in my area. Personally more of a scenic girly, so I find fun in park trials and nature. My favorite spot to chill would be apart of anacostia park and or gravelly point in VA. I might do brunch in the area like Park, Wilson hardware for good food options and chill throughout the rest of evening. The city definitely has more things to offer. You can literally make your own fun.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my process of growing my business and sharing my skill. I’ve also used this time to become more comfortable and familiar with my femininity and abilities as a woman. I’ve challenged myself to grow day by day , month by month and of course with a creative twist I’ve decided to utilize another skill I have. Instead of taking the photos I’m gaining confidence in front of it. With an amazing photographer Im slowly becoming more comfortable in my own skin, and beauty.
