We had the good fortune of connecting with Sterling Rung and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sterling, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Healthy boundaries and detachment from specific ideas, content or offers have been critical to my business success. I allow flow, inspiration and intuition to guide my decision making in order to better serve the needs of my clients and allow space for growth. Becoming too attached to one thought or service can lead to a state of stagnancy and misalignment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I specialize in embodiment photography, which is just as much about the experience as it is the artful outcome. My unique process includes nature immersion, light movement, breathwork and energy clearing to get the subject(s) into a state of ease and comfort in front of the camera so their unique light can shine! Embodiment is the union of the physical (body) with the soul (spirit). When these aspects of self are aligned we have access to infinite wisdom coming from both our human/animalistic instincts as well as our intuition. That is where the magic comes from and how I am able to capture the authentic expression of anyone who works with me! Developing my process has taken quite some time and was inspired by travel and a year of simply making art for myself, working with models and the land. It all came together quite perfectly as I became a certified breathwork instructor, energy healer and mentor in the embodiment space. Including these healing aspects in an art offering was the aligned next step to offer a deeper experiential and transformative value to my clients!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Bellingham is a beautiful place to enjoy nature and see some amazing art! I’d be sure to visit the Chuckanuts along the Salish sea for some hiking, kayaking or beach time. Whatcom Falls park is another must see park and lake for a sunny afternoon. If there is time I’d head out to Mt. Baker, up to Artist Point for a sky view of the area! As for the city, I’d spend a day downtown checking out the art galleries and local shops and spend a day in the historic Fairhaven for dinner or a drink. The trail between downtown and Fairhaven is a nice walk along the ocean as well! For food, I recommend Old Town Cafe for brunch, Red Light Kitchen and Bar for happy hour and Storia Cucina for dinner. The Kulshan Track Side Beer Garden is a great place to spend an afternoon by the water watching the bike jumps on the tracks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to Alana MacWhorter! She was a colleague back in my landscape architecture days and is now a beautiful entrepreneur in the landscape and floral design space. She expanded me deeply as I watcher her transition from the corporate world to build her creative business; finding alignment in her lifestyle, offerings and values. Alana shared many self discovery and empowerment tools along my path as well as posed as one of my models during some of my first photoshoots! Much gratitude!
