We had the good fortune of connecting with Bonnie Morét and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bonnie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve always been a risk taker, but taking a risk doesn’t mean being reckless. Instead, I do research to get to know the lay of the land before making any moves.

For me, taking risks was just what I needed to propel me to the next level to find the calling I love — photography. One thing that is paramount in risk taking, never burn any bridges behind you, and make sure that you always have something to fall back on.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that photography stirs emotion. Pictures are more powerful than words. When we look at a photograph, we focus on what we see, think or feel … and, we may even ask, “Why?” Being a professional photographer with a background in public relations and marketing, I am able to capture pictures that tell stories.

I am honored that my photography is recognized by The Georgia Council of the Arts as “an exceptional representation of contemporary Georgia artwork.” And, I was featured in a segment of Georgia Public Broadcast’s Georgia Traveler. My exhibitions include 40th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival Photography Exhibition, Fifth Annual Exposure Awards at Musée du Louvre in Paris, France. Art Takes Miami at Scope Art during Art Basel Miami, Dudes, Bros & Gentlemen at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles and Metro Montage XIII at the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art.

My photographic journey has included newspapers, concerts, luxury lifestyle publications, corporate events, conferences and conventions. It has been quite an adventure, and I am loving every moment of the ride.

Like all things, the world of photography has its ups and downs. Kindness, integrity, authenticity and a positive attitude are paramount every step of the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Atlanta Metropolitan area has SO MUCH to offer. Being an art lover, the first stop would be a visit to The High Museum of Art. On the way home, we’d stop for dinner at Muss & Turner’s. The next day we’d visit Atlanta Botanical Garden for “Cocktails in the Garden” and dinner at Longleaf. Two days would be spent shopping and enjoying all that Buckhead Village has to offer. We’ll rest on the fifth day. Activities on day six would be whatever my friend wanted to do, but we would end the day with cocktails and dinner at Canoe. Before heading to the airport on day seven, we’d stop by Ponce City Market for a goodbye meal at Biltog Bar.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to thank my mother for her patience and guidance, which enabled me to develop the coping skills needed to deal with life’s trials and tribulations. Little did I realize just how import the following words would be:

“You are going to make mistakes in life. It’s what you do after a mistake that counts.”

I sincerely appreciate my mother for giving me the gifts money cannot buy: resilience, tenacity, courage, strength, respect for self and others, integrity and humility.
