We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Woodruff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I created Struggling Butterfly/ Amber Lisa brand from life experiences. I’ve always taken dating seriously and tried to date with a purpose; but when I reached thirty and still single, no children, or any potential mate. I took pen to paper and wrote a book.
My memoir – Struggling Butterfly! The title came from my love for the beauty of a butterfly and the unique change process that has to take place in order for their wings to appear. Often women sometimes forget that we have to go through something before our wings appear and even in the midst of a struggle, we can still be a beautiful butterfly.
I made a movement of self-dating, not waiting for others to celebrate you! I wanted to tell my story of failed engagements, my abstinence journey and not reaching all my goals before 30 and that life was still good, I was right where I needed to be. In hopes, that sharing my struggles and point of view could help someone else in their healing
The books, candles, and shirts are all to boost confidence and create a vibe of self-worth, self- love and finding your life purpose.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
This business/ brand is Me- my thoughts, experiences, anxiety and prayers. Writing and creating this book was my way of healing and not wanting anyone else to feel like how I did as I was approaching thirty. I’ve been writing forever and it’s definitely my number one way to process the good and bad. This project started out as a way to just dump my feeling on paper! I don’t consider anything I’ve been through extraordinary, but it’s definitely made me the woman I’m proud of today!
No, I don’t have all the answers to overcoming heartbreak, anxiety, and life test, but within my story you will find tips and scriptures that help get me through. “20 Something ” last few years of my twenties caused me to be still and actually face the person in the mirror! I’ve been helping other woman find their wings and the beauty in their struggle.
I’m most proud of my vulnerability, I was totally scared to put my life out there for everyone to read but the feedback was incredible and I’m still excited with every sale that I receive.
I’ve learned that you should just take the leap! Life is too uncertain, and you don’t want to waste it sitting on potential. I’m thankful for the time I could bring my dreams to reality. Most importantly, everyone is not your client… Find your audience and you’ll be set. You won’t be able to please everyone and that is okay.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a brunch, shop, and take a nap type of day. We going to have t0 find a bottomless mimosa spot and then go thrifting, to the mall, and Target. My friends know when they come visit me, I’m chill and relaxing. Painting or doing some DIY project, out looking and listening to vinyl records. In short, I’m the home body that has to be forced out the house on a good day.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and my Circle- the support in everything I do. Every idea I run by them first and the feedback is always what I need and so much more.
My mom is the best mom ever and I know I drive her crazy with all my business ideas, but she supports them all and honestly lets me know I can do whatever I set my heart and mind too.
My siblings are my heart, we bounce ideas and support each other on this entrepreneur journey and I’m forever grateful
My writing coach- Veatrice Conely was the best and her keeping me accountable was the best thing ever for the start of my journey.
Every person that has supported my brand in any way; purchase, referral, like/ share/ comment and subscription.
