We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakita Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lakita, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When starting The Brand Museum, my goal was to equip my customers with innovative solutions to catapult their businesses, products, and brands so they create value and maintain competitive advantages in their respective industries.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a graphic designer, I wanted to provide an eclectic experience that inspires, informs, and motivates my clients to identify their brand and maximize their business through graphic design, web design and product marketing. What better way than to have a business with a museum aspect showcasing the many businesses I work with, whether big or small. I look at my work as a masterpiece that the world needs to see. The journey to becoming a business owner was a smooth one thankfully. I was able to build a clientele by word of mouth, secure my LLC, then later become federally trademarked. It has always been a goal of mine to truly OWN my business because I have had clients be heartbroken to learn that they have to change the name of their company and rebrand because the name is taken by another entity. That has been my biggest lesson that I’ve learned along the way; owning your brand. Now I make sure to share the importance of doing so with all my clients, as it is vital to the success of your business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Metro Atlanta area and would say that there is plenty to do and see here. Starting with Sunday, I would definitely do brunch at Slush ATL and catch a day party. Monday-Thursday you can catch a Taco Tuesday at El Granero, Wine down Wednesdays at Centennial Park, Thursday take a tour of the major landmarks in Midtown such as High Museum, Museum of Design Atlanta, Georgia, Aquarium, Coca Cola Factory, and have a bite to eat at 5Church, Friday have lunch at Pappadeaux and a little night life at Sivas hookah lounge and Saturday girls night out on the town bar hopping on Edgewood. This would be an ideal week for me and my best friend visiting the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My support system has consisted of my family and friends, as they have always been beyond supportive and encouraging throughout my journey. However, my parents and sister made sure to keep my creativity at the forefront of my life at a young age by taking trips to the art museum and enrolling me in art classes during the school year, along with additional enrichment programs in the summer, which shaped me to be the designer I am today.
