We had the good fortune of connecting with V. Monsha Tift-Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi V. Monsha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I was younger I told everyone that I would become a hairstylist. I loved to braid and twist hair my dolls were my first clients lol. My first human client was my uncle’s best friend I was around 8 or 9 years old and he would let me braid his hair twice a month. Fast forward to 2007 I decided to go to beauty school. While in beauty school my mom started losing her hair and I had to figure out what was causing it to happen. I asked my instructor and she told me to research my mom’s medication and do a process of elimination. After doing a lot of research I figured out what was causing it (a combo of blood pressure meds, anti inflammatory meds and the chemicals being used on her hair) and how to stop it from happening. At that point I realized that she wasn’t the only person going through this and I decided that I only wanted to do chemical free hair. I founded Naturally Crowned Beauty LLC in 2009. At that time I was a “salon” inside another salon. I ran my chair as it’s on entity. I vowed that I would only service clients that are chemical (relaxer) free. In 2017 I open the doors of Naturally Crowned Beauty in Adamsville, Al and presently located in Homewood, Al.
What should our readers know about your business?
Naturally Crowned Beauty – Your natural crown of glory is beautiful.
I am most proud of the growth of my business. I’ve watched it grow from me having only 3 standing clients and a revolving number of guest and now over 75 clients with standing biweekly and monthly clients that keep me busy.
I got where I am today by being consistent and always willing to learn. Being a business owner isn’t easy nor is it for the weak. It was many days and night of crying and praying, saying I quit and reminding myself that hard work “ain’t never hurt nobody” keep going!
I want the world to know that when you partake in the NCB experience you will receive amazing customer service and each visit will be all about you!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I give all honor and praise to my Creator. My spiritual family that lead and guide me on the daily. My mother, the one who physically birthed me and has given her all to shape and form me into the person I am today. My husband, my best friend forever, the one who supports me even when he has no clue of what I’m doing and how it will turn out. My clients, they are the best! Many of them have been with me since day 1 and have rode this rollercoaster of a journey with a smile and plenty of encouragement along the way! Last but in absolutely no way least. My Lil Lady (Grandmother), she is no longer in her physical body but I feel her presence each and everyday! She was my biggest supporter and cheerleader.
