We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Booker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabrielle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve worked in so many industries throughout my life, and have had boss after boss, and one day I sat back and I thought to myself: Do I really want to spend the rest of my life making other people wealthy? So that was really the turning point where I had a heart to heart with myself and figured out what it was that I wanted to do, and just went for it!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started up The Prickly Pear Wax Bar as a place that people from all walks of life can come to hangout for a bit, get waxed, and leave feeling great about themselves. I run my business as a place that’s safe and inclusive for all, making genuine connections with every client that walks through my door, and giving them an awesome experience from start to finish. It took a crazy amount of hard work and sleepless nights to build my business and dream clientele, and it doesn’t stop there! Every day is a new challenge, but the reward is that much more fulfilling. If there was one thing that I wanted the world to know about my business, it’s that at The Pear, you’re always free to just be yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh man, Little 5 for sure. The Vortex is one of my favorite spots to grab a bite and the eclectic feel of all of the little shops in the area is always a vibe. After some exploring there you know we’d have to hit the Battery and catch a Braves game!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is a village of people that I owe my continuing success to, for sure. My family and friends since I started this journey, have always supported me whether by sharing my work, or investing in my practice, they’ve been an incredible support system from day 1. My good friend Amber actually introduced me to the beauty industry when I took a trip to Premiere Orlando with her back in 2019. If it wasn’t for her and that trip, I wouldn’t even be where I am today.
Some of my other incredible friends like my best friend Adri who I have known forever, have been getting services done by me since I was in school. So it’s honestly such a wild feeling to have such awesome people rooting for me.
